What do you ride and why?

What kind of bike do you ride? Why did you choose that particular motorcycle over any other choices you may have had?


I currently have a 2011 KLR650. I picked it up because insurance is DIRT cheap and it fits all my needs pretty well. I also wanted to get into some light dirt/off roading. It seems to have handled everything I have thrown at it pretty well so far.

I use to have a ninja 500r. I think my next bike may be a CBR600. I also want something I can go 2up on VERY easily though. Not sure......i won't have to worry about getting another bike for awile though :mrgreen:
 
I have a GPZ500, or ninja 500, and a Peugeot Speedfight 50cc (until next week hopefully) what ever you want to call it, brought the GPZ because its my first big bike, it was that or a SV650, insurance and price for the GPZ was less than the SV. Also wanted something that i would be terrified of dropping it, and wont cost me a fortune if i do
 
Well.

I started with a Ninja 500/GPZ500s, which i turned into a streetfighter. i got that because it was dirt cheap to buy, insure, work on and run. I was happy with that.

THen i got a triumph TT600. I loved that bike but it gave me too many problems. it was a great size, i fit on it perfectly and it could really shift, but it wasn't to be.

Then i got a GSX600f, for cheap practicality, as i had to commute. i hated it, it sounded bad, it was bad to ride, it was slow, horrible. It got stolen. got it back and sold it.

Then i got a CBR600f.

Best bike i've owned, with the TT600 coming a close second.

The CBR i ride for it's great fuel economy, i'm getting 50+MPG and i'm hardly taking it easy...

It's a great sounding bike, it can shift like shit off a stick... handles billiantly.

I could have had another GPZ/Ninja but decided against it. if i was to sell the CBR and buy another bike, it'd have to be something i'd never had before. really tempted by a TRX850 and an XJR1300 ... but the CBR is what i want and what i like.

Bought a 50cc Gilera DNA (Motorcycle) because it was only £100 from a friend, then worked out it needed about £250 spending on it. well after losing money on selling it I decided to wait a while save up, spoke to my boss who's been riding for many years, and he suggested I buy the Aprilia Rs125.

The Aprilia was/ ( I think) the fastest 125 there is and it's alot of bike for a 125. Now after riding it for a year I think that it's time to move on and let someone else learn to ride her.

I passed my test on her so she's a worthy bike.

Now in the hunt for a SV650S, would like to find a one which is full faird as I would like the engine to be in as good condition as possible.

I recommend a GPZ500s, faster than an SV, and cheaper ;)
 
1981 honda xl500s, because i wanted a dual sport that had alot of power, the only thing i dont like about it is that it doesent do the freeway well at all. i dont have any plans to sell it for something else, if i do get something else then ill still be keeping this :)
 
Started with a 1986 Honda Spree. I bought it because a friend wrecked it and bought another moped. It lasted me 5 months tops. I was far too fat to ride such a small bike. I vowed after owning that moped to never own a bike with less cc's than my weight in lbs. About 7 years after I sold the ol Honda Spree, I bought a 2000 SV650N. I bought this bike because I was trying to choose between a GSX600f and the SV650 and it seemed like an overall better bike. I ride it because I enjoy riding :-P. Its dirt cheap to insure for a 22 yr old. I'm currently enjoying it, but looking for a new toy next riding season as I will be out of school and *hopefully* in the working world. The lady wants to learn to ride, so it looks like my pride and joy ( the bike that is) will be her toy next.
 
I have Harleys. An 1988 883 Sportster and a 2010 Forty-Eight. They are fairly slow, torquey, and top-heavy. Harder to ride than any sport bike or dirt bike I've been on. But I like the challenge! Plus they just look cool to me, and thats what I like, without a care to whatever anyone else thinks because nobody else is me.
 
CBF600SA - Good all round bike suitable for most types of riding, everyday or speciality for short periods. Inline-4 engine from a CBR600RR (retuned) give it a good measure of power and endurance when needed, but without the twitchiness of a race model.

My bike: heated handle bars, sliders, wheel hugger, scottoiler, CABS and HISS2. Bought it second hand, but with only 1300 on the clock, a '10 plate and it's first service only three months ago, so in most ways I consider myself the first owner from a usage point of view, despite the price saving.

For the daily commute, when the engine hardly gets time to warm up before I get there I get about 47mpg; for longer distances such as on a motorway I recently got 67mpg, but that was with half to two-thirds of the tank already gone from the daily commute so it's probably quite a bit higher.

A 2007 DL1000 Suzuki V-Strom. I was captured by the Adventure/Touring aspect without the expense of the BMW badge. Handles very well, Givi cases loaded or not. Get @ 40mpg if I keep my wrist out of it. Comfortable for long rides and not a handful around town. Goes where it's pointed.
Have an old '92 DR650 set up for trail use and having worked on that from time to time, understand the twin, so it's easy to work on from that standpoint. Not that I've had to do anything to the Vee. Rugged and reliable.
 
Wow. Lots of nice bikes on here. A good variety too.

I started out in the mid 90s with a '94 Katana 600. A decent bike for my first. A couple of years after I had it, some chick with a blood alcohol level of .07 (.01 away from legally drunk), pulled out in front of me and ended the bike and screwed up my leg. All is good with the leg now though.

Jump forward to 2007: got my first bike after the accident. In fact, I ended up getting and trading a few of them since that time. Instead of going through them all, I'll just list them.

  • 2006 Yamaha FZ-6
    2006 Buell XB9SX
    2004 Buell XB12S
    2000 Triumph Speed Triple
    2008 Kawasaki Z1000
    2003 Suzuki SV650
    2003 Triumph Speedmaster

I still have the Z1000 and the Speedmaster. I loved riding all of these bikes, but as much as I really liked their style, the Buells were the worst for me. They just didn't feel right. <shrug>

The Z1000 is a great bike for me. It's fast and corners well, and it's a bit more comfortable for me since it has a much less aggressive sitting position. I also like the looks of it.

I got the Triumph Speedmaster so the wife and I could go out and ride together. That, and it's a whole heck of a lot more comfortable for longer rides.

I ride a ninja 500 because it was my first bike, and I wanted something reliable and cheap so if I dropped it I wouldnt get too pissed. It's comfy and rides well, but I'm looking to upgrade.

But a GPZ looks ulgy, No offence to whoever owns one. I would like a 600+ because I'll be getting a 100cc scooter next year and my insurance company want to know if you've ridden a 600+cc bike before for the insuance to be included within the bike's insurance. and besides I'll be restricted for 1'n' half years, also with the SV being a V-Twin It'll feel faster. The GPZ is insurance groupe 8 and the SV is a 9 so there isn't much difference between prices I'd be looking at around £200, and for that to be such a little change I'd prefer to choose the SV, I wouldn't be saving much and I'm getting a bike that I would much rather have.
 
I've been riding a Ninja 650r 2007 or er6f. I wanted something practical to ride everyday and not too rediculous as it is my first bike.

It was this, the ninja 250, or the sv650, but i really wanted something with fairing and some interstate speed.

after a year and a half of it and losing my car for a year of that time; i wouldn't have done it any differently.

How is the power? Have you rode anything else to really compare it too? I was always curious how much faster it was than my old 500r. On paper they don't seem to be that different really.
