Bah, broke went over a puddle during the pouring rain earlier tonight and the water must have got in the electronics, because I'd be buggered if I could get the bike going; got it started on both cylinders, but as soon as I went to throttle, it turned off again. I've just left it for the night, hopefully it will be dry enough that I can go back and start it again tomorrow.

I have to ask, does anybody have any tips for driving in the pouring rain? It seems I could use some help so to avoid having this annoying dilemma again. lol
 
Mud/water in the spark plug cap will get you every time.

Dielectric grease and electric tape are you new best friends, otherwise.
 
Ha, I don't know if it was in the spark plug actually, it seemed to splash in from underneath (and somehow got into my boot as well). Sprayed the caps with WD-40, didn't do shit.

What on earth is "electric tape" I must ask? lol

Comes in black, green, red, blue... About 2cm wide. Stretches a bit before it snap when you pull it. I'm sure you've seen it before.
 
Heh, probably, I just can't recall it off the top of my head. At least I'm apparently not the only person this kind of thing happens too. heh I'll check by Halfords for some tomorrow (granted I can get my bike started again).
 
Oh yeah, you got rid of it after that, right? lol I think my spark caps are alright, it had been in the rain for hours, it was only after going through a puddle and it splashed up. Christ knows. Didn't want to call my breakdown cover tonight, as I've called them twice within the past month or so. lol

I'd ridden my bike in torrential rain before without any problems, caps can deteriorate like all parts on a motorbike. Maybe you should check the cap on an electrical tester for continuity? Still think it is the most likely possibility.
 
It's usually rain that does it on my SV650 thus my front spark plug is normally made water tight with some silicone grease. A mate with a curvy SV650 has made an extended flap to protect it.

Does the starter try to turn the engine at least?
 
Yeah, it was turning over and trying to fire, it just wasn't getting there. All my electrics (indicators, etc.) seemed to be working as well, and both cylinders firing. I got it going once with the choke on (as it was a really cold night) but as soon as I tried to use my throttle, it just completely conked out. Otherwise it would fire up for a second but then it would be done. :-( I'm mainly worried that it will get nicked now. lol
 
Have you got petrol in it? ;) Might be worth popping the plugs out and making sure they're dry. Not sure what it can be apart from fuel and plugs if you say it's trying to turn over.
 
when it rains i sprey some wd40 up under my tank over all the connectors and then i dont have a problem if i dont then it wont rev out past 5k and will die arfter about 10 mins
 
Ha, I'm fairly sure it's still got some in, though it was hard to tell in the dark; I tried turning it over to reserve, and it still didn't run. I took the caps off and tried to clean/dry the spark plugs themselves, there wasn't much else I could do. There must have been some cable it got wet from the bottom, that's all I can think of, really. :/ I'll see how it's doing in the morning, that's my only real hope, sadly.
