Man, haven't had good luck with this junk for a while. First the 2 crashes, and then while I was stripping the decals to get a new wrap on, turns out the tank is horribly rusted on one corner and under the thick layers of decals, the front fender split in half.

I paid $45 bucks to get a new KTM EXC 350 fender because it was cheaper. But dayum, this rust isn't going anywhere even with sanding. I've spent more money fixing this bike than it actually cost to buy it.

I might just keep it for 2 years or so and get rid of it and buy a better kept ZX-6R from another rider than a bike from a second hand dealer in the future.

Lol i'd love to rat my bike out, but rat bikes are indirectly illegal, because you have to maintain your bike up to a certain level of aesthetics to continue keeping the bike legal.

Can you apply a rust inhibitor to stop it from getting worse, fill it with a body filler and repaint?

Probably gonna just sand the rust flat, paint it to stop air from further oxidizing and apply some vinyls over it, play the shit out of it until I get sick of riding DRZs and then trade it in for a newer ZX-6R like in another 2 years.

Cool. The simplest way to seal it would be to get a primer that can stop rust. That will hopefully prevent any paint or vinyl lifting in the near future.

Holy sheeeet! That is really bad! Let me guess, the dealer said they don't know anything about it.

Do you have something like an MOT in your country?

True enough, but you can still make it LOOK pretty awesome and keep it legal. Just have to bend a few of the laws so they are still legal, but barely :D

Don't sand too much or you will make a hole on the tank, why not just clear coat over it at least to stop it from further rusting out. Lay a thick layer of clear to even out the surface and then slap decals to cover it up. At least you might get a decent re-sale value later.

We have a Land Transport Authority that demands yearly inspections for motorcycles older than 3 years from date of registration. So yup.

You know in Singapore, sportbikes that crash and have their fairings damaged have to either replace it with a new one that looks exactly like the original (doesn't have to be OEM, but it must look like it) or at the very least piece it back together with zip ties, glue and put it back on. Otherwise they won't pass the yearly inspection. So you can't even do a streetfighter.

I sanded the tank as flat as I could, leaving as much rust there to prevent further oxidization and decaled over it. The roughness does show up from under the decals, but whatever. Lol.
