That is irrelevant. Too fast for current conditions is still too fast.ryantcb said:I was doing 60mph in a 70 mph.
Focus on improving your judgement. I've made the same mistake, infact I think everyone has. It happens to us all, and fortunately in my case I missed the truck. Stopped with my knee 1 inch from the bumper.I have no idea the trucks are not moving if anything I think the one on the right is overtaking.
Panic braking is not intuitive. This is something else everyone needs to practice. Your body wants to mash the brakes as hard as possible and hope for the best. The reality is that doing this will almost certainly send you into the back of whatever you want to avoid. Another relatively common mistake that has to be worked on to be overcome. As soon as I realise they are not moving I slam on the brakes and the wheels just slide.
No way did he have better brakes. He was probably going slower and more than likely noticed the hazard before you. Cars have 7-10x more kinetic energy than a sportbike travelling at the same speed. The sportbike most likely has 3 disc brakes, where many cars only have 2, with 2 shitty drum brakes on the back. The bike physically has more stopping power, and about 1/10th of the energy to dissipate. Basically, with the exception of some ridiculously high end sports cars and the common, heavy, cruiser, if a car can stop in a given distance, so can a bike. The car driver said he put on his hazards because he had to emergency stop. Luckily for him he had 4 wheels and better brakes.
People are free to voice their opinion however they want. Just because they share a common interest doesn't mean they're going to be nice to each other. Also, the guy thinks a car has better brakes than he does..so it's not obvious that he knows his own actions caused anything. If he did his statement would have simply been "I didn't brake early enough."crackthepipe999 said:Gotta say I'm quite surprised at how people voice their opinions on here. The poor bloke has smashed his bike, obviously knows that his own actions/inactions caused it.

So glad to see someone else who knows something about the difference between 'stiction' and friction.YTStrider said:Only exception is if you're locked up already. The kinetic friction coefficient is about half of the static friction coefficient. In other words, a well-placed tire braking hard has DOUBLE the braking capability than a tire locked up and sliding. -source- physics. Google it.
