Voice Distortion And Mic Set-up

Hey, so I'm using the Drift HD with a cheap external microphone. The microphone is tucked behind the check pad with one or two wind shields on (those grey, pieces of foam).
The only time you can hear the distortion is when I'm talking so I didn't think it was a problem with wind?
If anyone has come across this, please advise! :D

The Drift needs the mic sensitivity setting to 1, certainly the case for the genuine Drift mic.

it sounds more like voice distortion? It just plugs into the rear of my Drift, like a stereo in?
Yeah, I'm going to try a different mic, thanks! :)

I just kept mine in my inside pocket. A couple of mates found putting the mic at the chin bar produced better sound than in the cheek pads.

Some got worse sound though so it depends on the helmet you have. Best just to try a few different places and if you haven't already, try the cheek pads opposite the side your Drift is mounted.

I saw a youtube vid from CycleCruza I believe - testing different mic setups for the Ghost S. He got a lot of distortion with different mics. Once he tried the Drift mic, sound quality was excellent. I bought the Drift mic as well and it works a charm. I have it sticking out just on front of my cheekpad in my Shoei X-spirit 2.

could just be distortion from the volume of your voice versus the ability for the mic to handle it. It distorts because it has no other way to process the sound. You could run it through Audacity and clean it up. But I'd recommend taking it out of the cheek pad and getting a dead cat for it and mounting it neat the chin area. If it still distorts it might be time for a new mic.
