Visor Waterfall

Hi all,

I was riding through town the other day in heavy rain, and when I popped the visor at some lights, the niagra falls came down the inside of the visor, meaning I couldn't see.

I've ridden in heavy and heavier rain plenty of times before, but it has always been at highway speeds, and not had more than the odd bead or dribble come in.

Helmet is a pinlock equipped Nolan N91. I like the helmet, but I can't do with not being able to see for various reasons including not dieing... Is this problem one of those things, a cheap helmet or just knackered (it's 16 months old). Basically, do i retire it to being a second helmet/fair weather helmet?

SOUNDS LIKE THE WATER COULD BE COLLECTING ON THE RUBBER SEAL AT THE TOP AND THEN RUNNING DOWN WHEN YOU OPEN THE VISOR....MAYBE CHECK THE CONDITION OF THAT ?

SORRY BOUT THE CAPS JUST LOOKED UP AND SAW THEM...

N91 has been around a while, I'd have thought I'm not the only one if it's "feature". Been trying to look at other photos of helmets to see if the rubbers are shaped to duct water away, but it's hard to tell.

I have Shoei Mulittech helmet - the flip face design - and the rubber seals are shaped in a way to have the water run off, even when not moving. I though all helmets were designed like that? Hope it helps

Cheers. Gonna have a look at a Neotech as thats the replacement for the Multi as far as I know.

Had a suggestion of using draught excluder strip to encourage the water not to pool.

The Neotech are a little friendlier for mounting cameras as well. there aren't as many sharp edges in places that would be a good spot to put it.

In my defence, I never said they were cheap :-) HJC have helmets that are similar and for much cheaper that the Shoei. Maybe check them out?

The windcutter is a microphone cover to stop wind noise.

Is there are thread you haven't replied to yet with a complete load of shit as a reply?

I reckon it was just brain fluid popping out in fury, Lurch. Check your forehead, not your helmet.:p

I get this with my hjc in heavy downpour i unclip my visor catch at the front and asoon as that happens it lets water fun down the pinlock on the inside so i cant see

Hopefully the Lazer will be better, think so looking at the line of the rubber. Never know, could try a mic windsock....

My friend has an arai and he uses an extra rubber seal on the visor and this weird peak thing, says it works wonders

Had someone suggest draught excluder type thing as that will stop water pooling between the visor and the helmet on top of the rubber. The peak will help at speed, but won't stop water running down when slow or stationary sadly.

Thinking about it, the rubber seal would be better on the visor than the helmet, might see if I can get some from Nolan, although the little fuckers have ignored my email.

Look at the stuff arai use its like a strip that goes over the edge of the visor, check the thicknesses first mind

If I get the same seal that is attached to the helmet, that should work, it's just the reverse of what's there, and water will just drip down the hole. I can deal with getting wet, I can't deal with not seeing in busy traffic.
