Very New From Au

Greetings from Australia.

I'm very new at this stuff so came over to get some info on cameras and the like.

Been using a go pro for a few things but don't want to shove that on my helmet so have been looking at alternatives.

Would love to just get a drift stealth because of the size but the lack of mic imput means I would have to do something else on that front.

Now thinking a contour + or a drift ghost might be better but not sure on the size.

Anyway here is my youtube channel for those interested. /channel/UCxXzjy_pjpf-pFhbGAQ6KNA (cant post links yet so will fix later)

No motoblogs as yet just some short vids, and don't worry I have a better bike than the ones in the video.

Yes the ghost is ahead in the race of what to get. Just need to go look at one to get a actual idea on size.

If I could find a simple bluetooth audio recorder I think I'd end up with the stealth though.

Welcome to the forum.

I had always been a GoPro man and have owned GoPro Hero 3 White and Black + editions. when I started motovlogging I went and bought a Stealth and a Ghost and have now bought a dictaphone so I am covered for all scenarios.

To be honest, depending on which one you have the GoPro will give far better image quality than the Drift cameras, but the Stealth and Ghost definitely aren't to be sniffed at and do fit nicer on the helmet. With the size of the Stealth I am incredibly tempted to have that as the helmet mounted camera and keep the Ghost fixed to the bike as a secondary camera.

If I were to start again. I would probably stick to Drift as they don't look ridiculous on your helmet. If you have got time to edit and don't mind messing about a bit I would get a Stealth and a Dictaphone and join the two up when it comes to editing.

Hope this helps.

Check out my latest video (should be uploaded in 7 minutes:)), the main video is the Ghost and the short clip of me is the stealth. The voice over for the track is imported via the dictaphone....

At some stage I'll get to a shop and have a look at both drift cameras. At the moment the only thing holding me back from the stealth is the lack of mic input. However as I also use a sena a Bluetooth recorder could solve that problem. Just worried about the size of the ghost on the helmet.

It is a little on the large side but it does actually fit quite nicely on the helmet....you don't notice it's there when riding. It also looks a lot more streamline than the GoPro.

The GoPro is king when it comes to motovlogging. If you can do a chin mount, it won't be too bad. I have a Drift HD 1080, which is the older brother of the Ghost. It's more streamlined, but the GoPro's quality will be better.

Well the issue in this country is you can be fined for a helmet camera. So going to something that's smaller makes more sense.

Really? Damn! I wonder what's the logic behind that? The Sony action cams are pretty small and picture-wise they're not bad. Not sure if they make one with an external mic jack, but I know some folks have rewired the internal mic so it can accept an external.

The logic is revenue raising. So much so that this went through the courts over here.

They won in the end but I hate to think what it cost. There is a big push to change some of the helmet laws here so with a bit of luck it wont be a problem.

The irony is most motorcycle police want helmet cameras for themselves.

There is a drift HD on a austion site at the moment, I think if I can get it for around the price of the stealth I'll go with that and keep the gopro for bike mounted vision.

What the fish! (No not you Mr Fish :p) That's so retarded, it's the same if you had stuck a decal sticker on your helmet and saying it no longer meets the safety standards. The camera is adhesive (like a sticker) to the helmet shell, it does not modify the helmet's safety and in event of crash, it's more likely to break away (like some of the helmet that have spoilers) than cause damage.

If you use a camera and record yourself doing some illegal (i.e. speeding), they can use that footage against you.
If you use a camera and record authorities doing something wrong, you are deemed making illegal footage and should be jailed.
If the authorities use a camera and record you doing something wrong, that's perfect evidence against you.

F**K THE WORLD WE LIVE IN!

** End of rant. **

Edit: Welcome to the forum! :D

Yes its that ridiculous. Technically you can be fined for not caring the instruction manual with you.

However it seems to depend on which state you are in and which side of the law you work for.

Make sure it's a Drift HD 1080. I don't think the 720 has an external mic.

Pissed off. Missed out on the Drift HD by $5. Was going to up the bid then got stuck on the phone. GRRRRR

So now I have to decide if I just want to get the stealth and do something else for the audio or spend more than I really wanted and get the ghost 2

Well I'm now the proud owner of a Drift ghost S.

Went to my local store as I heard they had a clearance on, found out they are getting out of the drift stuff all together.

Asked about the Ghost and was told they were out of stock. So thought I'll just get the stealth and deal with it later. When standing at the counter I noticed their display model sitting there.

Asked them what price they could do on that one, they asked me how much, I said a price slightly above the stealth and it was mine.

Also grabbed the mic why I was there.

Welcome to the forum.

What ghost means is the higher the quality the less you lose due to youtube. So you lose quality from anything but if you have the best quality you can then you lose less.

Drift do a harness to shoulder mount your camera. Never seen footage from one to know what it's like though.
