Upload Times

Miss RedRenna - UK motovlogger
So I want my channel to be as high quality as possible but it is taking so many hours to upload to youtube it is getting ridiculous.

An example of this was uploading a 3gig video yesterday.
This took from 9am to 10pm to upload, 13 hours!!!

The video was 11 minutes long, recorded in 720p @ 30fps.
Is there a way of reducing the file size without sacrificing quality too much?

Im using a macbook, imovie and export in h.264. Should I be exporting it differently?

I just did a speed test and got

Ping 124ms
Download 1.47mbps
Upload 0.47mbps

So im guessing thats pretty rubbish :( bloody sky internet.

I produce my videos in MP4with customs settings, as soon as I did that my upload time went from 4-5hours to an hour or less

Yer lately mine has been running alot slower. was quite quick in the summer when i did the last speed check.
Might have to phone them and complain.

For now i have downloaded a programme called handbrake that was on that link that you put up Hoonigan (so thanks for that :)) the programme compresses videos, and I have compressed my most recent one and am uploading it now. taken it from 3GB to 800 or so MB. Hope it doesn't come out really rubbish quality :S

BT have been making loads and loads of changes due to their massive push on Fibre in the UK!

This means that whole networks have been diverted while they chop up the roads etc

0.5 upload is pretty dire, it you google BT speedchecker, see what you should get then shout at your ISP, might or might not help...

3GB sounds big for 11 mins at 720/30, think my 10 minute 1080p stuff was less than 2GB, may be worth a fiddle with some settings as an experiment and export to file rather than YT if you don't do so already.

Final Cut Pro should be able to trim it down a bit as there's some more options in that.

I would love final cut pro but it is 200 squid! Anyone got a hack? :P
I do export to file rather than direct to youtube, the file that i just compressed a bit is already 32% done after only one hour, so thats much better than before. Three hours rather than 13 is an improvement but will have to see what the quality is like on youtube when it is done :)

naughty naughty ahaha, yeh just try other setttings for the programs oyu do have now

That
Needless to say -- I don't want this being posted in the live forum at all ;)
Don't worry was a joke :D hacks are full of viruses and I don't want my lovely Mac getting hep b!
I have done most of my other vids overnight, but my last couple have failed mid upload so when I get up in the morning I'm really annoyed when I see it's not done it :(

hahah where is that from? the background looks like prop hunt

Just about to put my new vid up (the compressed version) please tell me if it looks rubbish on youtube... by rubbish internet connection will not let me watch in HD on youtube :(

It shouldnt be taking you that long at all. I uploaded a 10 minute vid yesterday and it took 30 minutes to actually upload fully. I'd check into getting better internet
