Uk Insurance

How does it work if you buy another bike and then need to sell your first? Do you have two running insurances or do insurance companiers give a short extension to allow you to sell the other bike?

I tend to swap bikes or have a cross over during winter. Most insurancera will offer temp bikes for a couple of months for like 100 or just to add on, keep on is like 30 lol

I do it all the time. Depends on the bike as well ? If it's a 125 then I just buy a new policy for 40 a year, keep the no claims as a back up, just in case, I did when I got rid of the Sinnis. Thankfully it worked as I had my fire blade stolen so I can still use the spare ncb for sports bike

Your policy may allow you additional bikes, and often that's a token amount extra on the premium, premium being based on the bike that would be the greatest cost to insure based on risk or value. Think Calmbiker's policy went up by about £20 when he bought the Z750.

Unless you plan to ride both bikes at the same time, then you don't need both insured, just the one you will use, however you're screwed if the uninsured bike gets lifted.

Phone your insurers, just see what they can do. If you invoke another policy, you may not be able to cancel it pro-rata after the 14 day cooling off period.

How did it work before when you had the Virago and the scooter? Two policies or one multi-bike?

Just bear in mind, many insurers have an admin fee of anywhere between £15 and £50 for each amendment to a policy, so it could cost you more in fees than premium.

If you own two bikes, you cannot ride the other on your main bikes insurance. It must be added to your policy or have its own.

You can only ride third party if it has its own insurance and not owned by you or sometimes anyone living in your house

I had both separately. Could only get a multibike if certain conditions are met, and I couldn't achieve them. But having told the insurer that I have sold the Virago after 10 months on the policy, they then charged me £35 to cancel the insurance and then told me there was no carry forward noclaims discount because it wasn't a full year.

You could ask for a crossover period, probably your only option short of buying a shole new policy.
