Trying to get the knee down on the Hornet, its my new rider goal to get my knee down. I think maybe a little faster on that roundabout then i may have it. I was going around at about 38-39 mph I think if I went round at about 45mph I could have the knee down.

Try putting your head around the right hand mirror, keep your left leg hooked onto the fuel tank.

The idea is to keep the bike as straight as possible, but for you to be hanging off of it.

 I had to read that a couple of times before I understood what you meant DJ. The idea is to keep the bike as UPRIGHT as possible... not straight. you aint ever gonna get round a bend with a straight bike.

Personally whilst I think getting your knee down round a bend look pretty cool, the state of UK roads today scares me and since I low-sided one of my old bikes taking a bend on Shit road surface, I tend to act with caution. My advice for getting your knee down would be to first do a recky of the roundabout or bend in question to make sure it is free from diesel/loose gravel etc. Select 3rd gear. Keep your revs nice and even and Ffs don't brake.

Seems a bit pointless imo hanging right off the bike just to get your knee down.

I've been told to keep toes on pegs, heels pointing to the swingarm, arms tucked in, one arse cheek on the seat, left left gripping the tank, head down at the mirror (asif your hiding behind it).

I've done all these and set my camera at the rear foot peg, I look close but I'm ony 5"5' is it even possible without being on a track with perfect road service and tyres?

Honestly? I doubt ill ever get my knee down, as my cornering technique is so shocking :P Though I'm not bothered, as its been said, the state of the roads often makes trying very risky.

DONT BE A MELON!!!!

CORRINGHAM REFINERY!?!?!?!.... yeah.... lean over as much as you can outside a diesel refinery... I know people who have had many a slippage there doing the same thing.... find a better roundabout :)

but the bikes not even leaning........

Surely kneedown is only impressive if done at speed and with the bike actually lent over.... I don't understand this knee down on roundabout malarky....... Country roads yes... but roundabouts......

Meh... guess its just me..

That is the point.

And it is "practice" on technique, not everyone can afford to go for a track so this provides a relatively controlled environment for the rider.

I consider a roundabout more dangerous to practice on (expecially next to a diesel depo) The majority of riders will be on a roundabout too small... they're going too slow and the bike is just tipping in and out all the time. Find a corner... and attack it repeatedly.

And if you look at the 2nd picture again... BECAUSE he's going so slow and leaning off the bike so much... he's actually missing his knee slider completely....

The road isn't the place to be getting your knee down. It's unsafe for so many different reasons.

However, if you HAVE to do it on the road, a corner would be better than a roundabout as CLARKY said.

But seriously, you shouldn't HAVE to do it on the road.
If you can't afford to go on a track or whatever then who cares; just hold off trying to get your knee down until you can.

I've seen people get their knee down but still have bigger chicken strips than I've got. It's not a measured level of skill or anything like that.

^ I was playing devil's advocate there, I know it's not completely safe, but yes rider selection (of the roundabout, time, business etc) can help them. A good corner is better sure, but for the purposes of getting used to positioning a roundabout could be better.

Of course getting your knee down doesn't mean anything, obviously that is why I have not done it lololol!!

Wow alot of hate happening here.

The roundabout i did that on was very unused, the only reason there were a few cars nearby was due to a bootsale about 2 hours earlier.

That was my first time getting my knee down.

I feel that trying to get my knee down at 40-50-60MPH on a country road with animals darting out at me (Shit loads down here) and loads of cars around constantly feels more dangerous to me.

Yes I can lean and NEARLY get there but I wanted to get practice on a slower, wider roundabout where I can slow down or speed up and control my lean constantly to get it right. Where as on a country road.. you have one shot on particular corners until you have to ride another 5-10 mins or so to turnaround and get another go.

There isnt that many good roads near me (nothing as amazing as the ones that swearingMuffin showed me! OMG!) but yeah.. Just want to practice before a track - Alot of the guys I would be going to the track with get their knee down on track with ease, so wanted to be prepared for when I do :)
Didn't wanna waste time and money on a track trying to get my knee down and learning properly.

Hey, even MCN (Which i've heard have been slagged off apparently on here by a few people) have a video on youtube about 'How to get your knee down' which I focused on and they do it on a BUSY roundabout...

All i'm going to leave this with is.. Each biker has their own preference. :)

I will be going to a track in a few weeks I hope so then I can really give it a go,

If you have never tried to get low on a roundabout try it because it boosted my confidence a lot even if i didnt get my knee down,
