Too many videos?

@Meifesto - Thanks for sharing your experience - I think the daily thing is too much for a lot of people.

I also think that if your channel covers a range of video types, not just motovlogs, you have more bandwidth since you're serving multiple types of viewers. That's what this last month's data has shown me.

@sparkthego - I usually see more views in the Spring and Fall, less in Summer when everyone's riding, and I'm not sure about Winter, it seems about par for the course so far, if not a bump up from the Fall.

Pretty much my only media consumption these days is youtube and mainly motorcycle related content so from a viewers perspective to me it depends on the videos,

If its a channel I watch regularly and enjoy there videos then I'll watch if they put out daily video's providing the content remains interesting, if they start just putting out video's just for the sake of getting a video out daily and the content isn't interesting then this can hurt the channel I think because I'll generally stop watching and will be less interested in watching future videos from said channel due to the fact that its now in my head that they are just throwing up videos for the sake of it and the content wont be that interesting.

Its a fine line and of course what may be interesting to some may not be for others.

Regarding shorts, as above I've also found that my shorts perform far better than my regular content (not that my content is that regular) and generally but not always I try to make my short kind of like an add for an upcoming video or a new video I have just posted in the hope that it may direct some viewers to watch the full video, can't honestly say if this has helped or not as I don't upload regular enough or have enough of a viewer / sub count for it to really matter or be noticeable.

I also think it plays a big part in the base of your channel.

If you have done a year or longer with 2 video's a week and then start doing daily video's your subscribers are not used to it, and might just watch the normal days video's and skip the rest. Maybe without knowing that there is more.

If you start daily vlogs from day 1 then that can be the strength of your channel.

Well this was a good read. I’m glad to see the struggle of other motovloggers… take that lightly as I’m not basking in our pain – just relate to it. And Drakhen99, your upload schedule seems untouchable. It often takes me multiple days just to edit one video.

To that point, I’ve identified I need to focus more on “topic flow” to cut down on my production process. I think I’ve really been struggling with how best to organize everything from start to finish.

And to answer your question, my current goal is to upload a few videos per month with the ultimate goal of producing one quality piece per month. I’ll litter in less time consuming content here and there. We’ll see what happens.

Cheers!

Hey, you're stealing my idea! One good video surrounded by quicker edits!

About my release schedule... I have completely given up on sleep at this point, and focus solely on producing quality YT content... "quality" being subjective, but as humorous as I can make it. I edited 4 videos the other night, start to finish, and uploaded them. Went back the next day and set up end screens, info cards, chapters on some of them, and thumbnails. It's a grind. It's fun. I'm addicted.

And what'll really blow your mind, is after today's video, I still have 11 videos ready to rock and roll, and 20 or so still in editing.

I just find that I hit a groove with the editing, and my muscle memory takes over, and before you know it, I'm looking around like, "hey, that's it? let's add some special effects!"

It probably doesn't hurt to put up more videos more frequently, but it's true you could be oversaturating your audience. I find it difficult to not only edit that much content on a regular basis, but getting it uploaded is also a challenge. I get 1 mb/s upload speed and have to share that with the rest of the house. That means a 15 minute video in 1080p takes more than 2 days to upload leaving the PC on continuously. For this reason, with my content I've been setting them to go up 1 every 3 to 4 days.

WOW! I couldn't deal with that slow of a connection! My wife works from home, so we need more speed... I just take advantage of that to upload my vids as fast as I can.

You're right though, it can over-saturate the audience, but I serve several audiences with one channel [one reason I suspect I haven't grown like other channels do, but I'm OK with that]. So, I try to mix in Resolve tutorials with vlogs with vlogging equipment vids, with whatever else LOL.

There's just not one type of video, so people don't get bored of seeing the same thing on my channel - or so I tell myself.

I'd not be able to cope with that speed internet... what is your download speed?
I know we have discussed this with you in the past.

When I started motovlogging I was on DSL, which in my area is very slow. It would take me almost a whole day to upload one 15-20 minute video. Now I have Starlink from SpaceX and that same video size takes me about 20 minutes, sometimes less, to upload. Starlink was a life changer for us!
