Too many videos?

For those of us who post videos regularly and try to keep to a schedule, is there a number of videos per week that is too many?

I've put out about 17 videos in the last month. I did 2 or 3 per week, but this week it's been one each day... does anyone have any experience with that heavy of a publishing schedule and how it effected your channel?

-John

The most I have done is 3 in a week, I used to find 2 a week manageable, but am much happier with just doing a single vid, takes the pressure off.
That's what's funny... I don't feel the pressure. I just feel the need to constantly be filming & editing.

Guess I'm odd. I will say, that having 20+ projects "in editing" is kind of a pressure, I want to get them all done and uploaded... but mostly so I can have space on my SSDs for more footage!

I think the more videos you can put out the better. YouTube seems to really push channels who upload a lot.

I don't know how you do it John, you are like a motovlogging beast. One video per week is my happy place, but I know it would be better if I did more.

I don't sleep. I record too much. It's gonna be hell when I run out of ideas of stuff to film.

:D

Two a week on a consistent schedule is right on the edge of oversaturation to the audience. Of course check your analytics for your channel. With Shorts getting monetized you could do two regular videos and two shorts - all on different days.

Here is when my fans are most likely to tune in (it varies just a bit from month to month)

Thanks for sharing that - mine is similar, with more people on Monday morning and like Thursday afternoon.

Related to the 2/week oversaturation: My one-a-day experiment this week has been interesting. I did 5 videos, each for the 5 types of viewers I get... 1 each for GoPro test/problems, product reviews, and Davinci Resolve, with 2 vlogs mixed in for good measure. The GoPro problem vid did the best, the vlogs did well, the product review didn't do well [it's winter and it was a m/c-related product], so I didn't expect it to do well off the bat. The Resolve one went live today, so its long-term success cannot yet be measured - but it's off to a decent start.

Slightly off topic, im working on my first Short. (man those little guys pack alot of punch in regard to editing time). I had a video that went for 20 min and I thinking for a while that I should do a cut down version like 10 min but now that I’ve gots Shorts in sight it looks like I’ll be doing a 1 minute version. I’m planning to make the first few shorts as just short summaries of some of my longer videos and see how it goes from there.

Not to burst your bubble, but I was watching a VidIQ livestream the other day, and they highly recommended against using Shorts to do teasers for long-form videos.

I think the recommended length is also around 20 seconds... and my own stats on shorts bear fruit from that. The shorter the better. Damn people and their short attention spans. SMH :(

Thanks for your advice, but I'm not going listen - I just keep doing whatever I want and learn the hard way. Thats the only way the seems to get through for me,

I hope you can look past my bad sense of humour.

On a serious note, ill take on this point but at the same time I think there is a subtle difference between making Shorts as a promo/teaser compared with redoing an existing video in Shorts form. I feel that some messages I have in my full video could be said better in Shorts. Like I said I'm not going to do all my videos with matching Shorts but there are a few say 3/4 out or 20 that probably could be said better as a Short.

I'll also look out for that VidIQ video you mentioned.

Hey, no worries man - I too, will do whatever the heck I want with my channel, my way, and let the chips fall where they may. I treat almost every single video or post or publish as an experiment, seeing what works for me and my audience.

I treat it like a big freakin' game, and it's a lot of fun. Could I have 5k subs by now? Probably... but I don't play by THOSE rules. :D

SO, TL;DR: You do you, and let us know how it works - I'm genuinely curious!

Yeah, hey I hope I didn’t sound arrogant i was just joking around. But yeah it’s all experimental and fun. I know nothing compared to you guys here on the forum and i have had some humbling lessons in terms or views count and engagement/view time. Anyways have a merry Christmas. All the best.

Nope, not arrogant at all. Simply someone set on doing something, whether it's the "right" way or not - just like me, and I applaud that. I guess my own post wasn't quite clear enough :D

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good vlog!

Yep, that's the power of Shorts.

Here was my most popular short: View attachment 6570

More watch hours than 99% of my videos.

-John
Yeah, I just hit 1.2k overnight. then a flat line lets see what happens after another night.
I Still have ideas for more Shorts but I wont give up on the regular long videos.

Talking about the future here is my prediction; I think there will be a bit of a swing back to regular youtube videos because Shorts are too fast and from the analytics I can see people are watching it several times probably just to get the point. I actually do the same thing. People might start to crave the regular videos again.

But its a good lesson for me as a creator to respect viewers time with meaningless rambling.

I have done 3 years in a row a continues upoad from christmas till new years day.
So 24 Dec till 01 Jan.
A video each day.

And they always did worse then the other video's every year.
So daily video's are to much for this niche in my experience.
