Thoughts on creating subtitles

What are your thoughts on creating subtitles for Youtube, more specifically for non-english users? I noticed that at least 50% of my viewers were from non-english countries. Not sure if you guys see similar stats

FYI you can create English subtitles and YT will translate. I've personally used this before on some Spanish and Italian videos and it worked well.

That automatic translation is far from accurate. Just tried on one of my videos, I've practiced subtitles on.
But generally I like the idea of subtitles, just can't be bothered of making them

I have no time to care for subtitles.. Sometimes I do on the fly translation.. Anyway I think and hope most people understand my ramblings.

If YouTube does the auto cc, even if it is 75% accurate, it would be nice because I could then tweak it myself.

I thought they removed the cc unless you or someone else does it?

As far as practicality, think of this.
*Amazon demands cc in order to publish.
*The numbers from https://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/statistics/quick-statistics-hearing
appears to show a potentially under-served audience.

*I know of at least a couple of riders with only 10% hearing remaining out of a group of 140 I used to ride with.

I agree to transcribe the video manually is very time intensive. I also hate for someone that cannot enjoy the ride experience for their self to not be able to at least experience it on the screen.

You have to input your english subtitles. Then a watcher can select a language and youtube will auto-translate from what you gave it.

Well if your videos are originally in English and if you show it to some of your friends to see if they can understand you clearly there really isn't much of a point in translating unless you're getting a majority of views from other countries. But remember a lot of people use VPN's which could place their view in non-english speaking countries.

If i speak, i do it in my native tongue. It absolutely 200% requires subtitles.

They take alot of time to make. (Especially since i do dutch AND english) but i can see people have been using them so then its no problem.

I tried with one vid, but it is very tedious, I think that depends on the watcher to try to understand the vid.
Once I was reserching about tachometer implementation, and the most accurate video i found was from india, oviously i couldn't understand a thing, and there were no subtitles. It was frustrating ...

I've translated a few of my videos to a few different languages, I'll check in a month or two if m demographics have changed.

I add subtitles some times when I speak Japanese.
