These things come in threes right?

Hey Guys, - sorry this is a bit of a long one.

So things dont seem to be going my way recently. As some of you know I'm currently doing my Das and for Mod 1 I crashed before the test. Today was my Mod 2 and already things werent looking good on the way out to Banbury the rain was getting heavier and heavier, my instructor said that he thinks we might end up having the test called off but hoped that the right would be worth it in the end..

we got up to the test centre albeit cold and a bit damp the rain and lightened a little and we went ahead. I was up first out of the two of us so cacking it off we set, things where going pretty well I thought I may have picked up a minor or two along the way for forgetting a lifesaver here and there, then we come to the independant ride. The examiner told me to pull up at the side of the road so i did. the road was uphill and leading in a bend, he told me to follow the road signs for this place and to set off when I was ready. So I gave a good look back - nothing coming, got ready to move off, checked mirrors - nothing coming started to pull off - final lifesaver - nothing coming and off I went. It wasnt untill I stopped at the junction that I noticed a car between me and the examiner, Turns out in the time it took me to look from my final lifesaver to the road ahead back in to the lane this car had come shooting up and had to break heavy. so Failed there for observations. I dont know if because he was a bit further down the road and in the bend a little that he could see but he counted that as a serious. if it wasnt for that I'd have passed with no faults at all, completely gutted.

once we got back to the centre and he told me (infront of people who i've never even met before also awaiting to go out on test) the other guy on my course went off and passed with no minors or faults nothing. That was a bit of a kick in the nuts...

so after that we set off back home me feeling like a bit of a loser, we come off the roundabout and I started building up speed, at first I thought the wind was just really strong today so the bike felt a bit funny, after a while I seemed to be loosing power and juddering slightly so i dropped a gear incase i was too high for it, the whole thing went dead. I had the throttle full open and i couldnt even keep it at 40! so the engine cut out totally dead. after getting it started and trying again 5 mins later engine died again and was leaking petrol. We had to abandon the bike and I had to jump on the back on the instructors bike and pillion the last 25 miles or more now that was not a fun ride I clung so tightly to them rear huggers..

so yea surely, a small crash, a fail and a breakdown, that should brighter times ahead right?
again sorry for such a long post.

I failed my mod 2 twice for REALLY 'unlucky' reasons in my mind. I felt SO hard done by and I was considering quitting if I didn't pass it on my third attempt. Luckily I did, plus the examiner was surprised I had failed before. Anyway, I haven't looked back since.

Just remember, (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) when asked to pull over, you pull over when you think it's safe to do so. Maybe that means not on a bend and on a hill, thus you keep riding. IF he thinks you've traveled too far before pulling over, the worst he can do is give you a minor. So keep going until you find a nice straight section on a level surface and not opposite any junctions (as I learned with a minor) or on a double yellow.
When asked to follow directions, don't worry if you take a wrong turn, and don't do something silly trying to follow his directions. Again, going the wrong way isn't a fail. It's a minor at worst. He'll sound grumpy as hell on the intercom, but just ignore it and keep your composure.
Also, unless I'm forgetting my training, trust your first life saver. When you are ready to go, mirrors, life saver and go. Don't double up if unnecessary. And depending on the speed of the road, give it some beans up to the speed limit. They want to see you're in control with reasonable confidence.

Keep your chin up and don't get down, keep plugging away! Keep us posted!
