I thought it might be a good idea to open a near miss thread so that folk, like me who get near misses practically every day, can post their short near miss video?

And I think they should just be of near misses and not whole vlogs + near miss, if you know what I mean?

Anyways, here's my near miss today (had 2 yesterday, but the camera was off...meh!).

I have one from the other day, where I braked and slid into traffic on the ice and then had no choice but to try and run with the bike over lane. Luckily the guy coming at me was paying attention. LONGEST 3 seconds of my life.

This was turning right onto a dual carriage way so it was sheet ice and I cut into a lane with 70 MPH traffic :|

This is a good idea, assuming people don't mind a bit of constructive feedback at times.

It concerns me that you have near misses almost every day. I get them once in a blue moon and even that's too soon for me.

You've allowed yourself to race a BMW from what I can tell which has put you in the position of breaking the speed limit and having to undertake what looks like a clio who either hasn't seen you (likely option) or isn't taking kindly to being undertaken.
All you gained from this is a couple of hundred yards and a couple of seconds advantage. Where as you could have let the BMW go, joined the motorway whilst matching the speed of the traffic on it, then moved out and opened up the gas. No near miss involved.

I would really recommend having a long look in the mirror if you're having that many near missed and either booking additional lessons or joining IAM or ROSPA etc.

Ride safe.

In hind sight I probably wouldn't have done it, but the fact is that the day before I had almost been killed by a cage that ran a red light and then a BMW driver decided to overtake the entire slip road on the hard shoulder causing me to brake hard.
It was frightening enough that I didn't want to be in the same position the very next day, so I used my acceleration to try to get out of trouble.

I've done an advanced course in motorcycling and I've ridden bikes and only bikes for every day of the past 17 years, so I'm well experienced enough to know how to get in and out of trouble.

And BTW, the title shouldn't be read literally, I don't get people almost knocking me off every single day, but it does happen alot and I know how to avoid these situations, if you do as many miles per year as I do, you'd know how often cars pull out on your or whatever.

I do appreciate your feedback btw and I've had time to analyse and understand why this situation was partly my fault, however, no-one seems to be pointing out the cager's errors.

Which were? You undertook the car and coming from the slip road at speed, most likely in their blind spot. I don't think even a shoulder check from them would have helped.

Firstly, they did a maneuver without signaling or looking properly.

Secondly, they assumed that they could move back into the outside lane before the slip road had ended.

Now I was taught that if they were on a test , they'd have failed on both counts and one would even have been considered a serious error.

Or they considered giving a signal but chose not to as the slip road was coming to an end and no one appeared to be close to them. Being in the middle lane, their wing mirrors didn't cover your position and a shoulder check showed nothing because your closing speed was too fast for the situation and they didn't imagine someone would undertake them at that point.

As you said yourself, you know how to get into trouble.

On the road one should be ready for all eventualities, the fact is they should have signaled and they should ALWAYS assume something will be coming up a slip road no matter what, that's what slip roads are for.

I understand totally my mistakes, but still fail to understand why you don't even feel that they have the slightest bit of responsibility for moving their car into my path?
I ALWAYS look where ever I go, it my responsibility first and foremost to make sure I don't hit anything, I even got a compliment from a cager on my last video for my road craft and how many 'life savers' I throw about.

On the roads, one simply cannot assume anything, after all 'assume' makes an 'ass' out of 'me' and 'u' as they say.

All your near misses were car driver faults ;-)

That last one was especially ridiculous! You must be wearing your invisibility cloak a lot ;)

Seems that way sometimes, and all those happened with my brights on.
