The motovlog that did not want to be edited

Gather around, it's story time!
I recorded a motovlog in the middle of October, and now it's November and it's still not up! I'm a bit of a lazy knob, so I'm always out doing stuff instead of staying home editing, so it usually takes me a few days to edit. However, this one specific motovlog just has NOT been wanting to edit. Here's the situation:
I used to edit using Premiere Pro, because it's awesome and takes advantage of the M1 chip on my MacBook Pro. Had no issues with it, and right after my first motovlog went up, my license expired. And for some reason, my school hasn't renewed my license (I used my school license before because its free and I'm cheap + don't wanna pay for premiere), so now I just don't have access to Premiere. Time to learn a new software! I used LumaFusion on my iPad for a bit, and then switched to DaVinci Resolve so I could edit with my MacBook again. DaVinci is okay, I wish it had more useful functions for the touch bar (then again, neither does Premiere). Edited a few videos with DaVinci, all was well, until the time came to edit this motovlog. I accidentally recorded in 4k for this one instead of my usual 1080/60. No biggie, it's better video quality, right? My file is HUGE, and I film with GoPro and prefer to use GoPro's auto upload, not only because i dont have to mess around with SD cards, but mainly because you get the entire video as one file, as opposed to several 4 GB clips. But, it takes FOREVER to upload, so its a few days before I even have the files to edit. Not a big deal, I'm not in a hurry to edit. I get through and edit my video, and as I'm editing the video keeps like, saying the file is offline. I figure it's because its 4k so my computer is having trouble keeping up. Hours go by, I finish editing my video, render time! DaVinci won't let me render. It keeps dropping frames and then subsequently cancelling my render. I even tried re-encoding my files using HandBrake, no dice, DaVinci still whining. So, now I have to edit from scratch on my iPad using LumaFusion, and I'm pissed that I have to edit this all over again. Gives me no motivation to put this video out, and it's just annoying. Anyways, that's my rant.

Ahh mate that sucks. I always take the files off the memory card plugged into my PC as it transfers much faster that way for me. I didn't realise if you did it from the card it pieces the video together into one file, maybe that is an app thing as I don't think it does it on my PC?

I have had issues of rendering, because I have a weak pc, from ancient times. Usually I have managed to work something out. Worst case, just to reduce the render resolution.
Once I have quit a project, because of technical problem, but it was kind of my mistake too. The editor I use, does this thing, if you change the projects framerate, where all the timeline gets messed up. And I had edited most of the thing, before I discovered, I had the wrong project framerate, and I know it would cause the render to crash, because of the unamazing processing power of my computer. So I just deleted the whole thing.

I used to do that, but with gopro auto upload you get the one file, plus its unlimited storage, may as well instead of clogging up my file server

That sucks, man! I understand the frustration, though.

I recorded a TON of videos this summer... I'm still posting videos from JUNE on my channel. And then I'll go and record something time-sensitive, edit it, and publish that. It's a problem, I'm working on it...

ANYWAY! Last fall, I tried 3 times to record a challenge video... and each time I had so much wind noise and technical problems that I couldn't post it. This spring, another motovlogger posted the same challenge! So, I went out and recorded a response to it. Nope, still technical problems with the recording.

Heck, I went so far as to give the footage to @Dewey316 to edit, in a collaboration challenge WE created [OK, it was 99% him, but I get that 1% credit]. Finally, I got my vid out, LOL.

All that is to say, I understand the frustration, the delays, and the rendering issues.

I learned something new! I normally use my PC to edit so I was wondering about auto uploads to the cloud and sure enough there is one big video waiting...

I just wonder about downloading it on a roadtrip for editing. That might be a bear.

It sucks to have problems. One thing I have found. Whenever resolve has issues. Create a new timeline in your project, select all copy and paste the entire edit into a new timeline and try it again.
