The Filtering Revolution

You know what always makes me laugh about lane splitting. It's illegal in all states except 1 but riding without a helmet is perfectly legal in 39 states. So what 39 out of the 50 states are saying is riding without helmet isn't as dangerous as lane splitting... makes senseo_O
I propose a trade, make helmets mandatory and lane splitting optional... fair deal?

I don't know if this will help you but, I am from AUS and they first did a trial making it legal in the inner city, and after that it has become legal in the whole state.

Here is a link with the information. They say what they found in the trial there are some pro's and cons, but they did decide to make it legal.

The BIG thing here though is the distinction between lane FILTERING and lane SPLITTING. Basically speeds under 40km/h is filtering and that's fine. Speeds above 40km/h is splitting and is a big no-no.

Hope this helps.

The reason why it isn't legal is because the ones that are in power drive to the capitol and don't touch a bike at all. With that being said, I will undoubtedly filter past a car or two when I get a bike and get comfortable.

The main reason why people get pissed is that they have to wait in line while this other guy gets to go "cut in line".

They don't realize that that person that just "cut in line" is one car less on the road, and actually makes rush hour just a little less problematic.

There are always going to be people against it, but I post a question to them; why is it being legalized more and more around the world?

Lone Star Lane Splitting?

While the U.S. lags behind most European 139 countries in motorcycle-friendly laws, legislators in Texas and a few other states have reportedly introduced bills to allow motorcycles to lane-split, a practice which currently is only allowed in California.

In addition to a bill introduced by Texas law-maker Sergio Munoz Jr. (D-Palmview) that would allow motorcycle riders to buzz between lanes of traffic, Tennessee state rep Timothy Hill (R-Blountville) has offered up a similar statute that would permit lane splitting when traffic is traveling at 45 mph or less and the motorcyclist does not exceed posted speed limits.

Oregon and Washington State are also considering this very sensible and overdue idea which has the backing of The American Motorcyclist Association (which still, oddly, doesn't think mandatory helmets laws are a good idea.)

We'll keep you posted.

They try this every legislative session in Texas and it always dies in committee. Maybe this will be our lucky year with a new Congress and Governor. Our old bunch (Dewhurst/Perry) liked to come out in support of stuff and then make sure it died in committee or on someone's desk.

Yeah, you can compare it to a quick-register in the mall.
Allot of people think it is unfair that if you have only a handful of items you can "cheat" the row with a special register, while it actually means allot less people in the other rows and quicker service of the people in those rows.

just try to filter in Missouri, I dare you. Some driver would run you off the road for fun, or because they thought you were getting one up on them.

What he said. The cagers here in Texas think they're in some kind of contest and get infuriated if someone tries to merge in front of them, or god forbid, pass them. I didn't even have turn signals on my old bike because if you try to signal and then merge on a bike, they speed up and cut you off. So I just used hand signals on a need-to-know basis. On my new bike I use my signals, because there's no way in hell they're going to out accelerate me. They're like "That guy's gonna merge in front of me! I better-Oh fuck, where'd he go? Hey! there's a loogie on my windshield!"

Like my latest video? Although he practically took my front bumper off... and after I gave him a piece of my mind the guy slammed on the brakes when I thought he'd moved on and I nearly plowed right into the buffoon.

More than willing to cause an accident and potentially cause someone permanent damage or death to placate themselves. Words like Histrionic and Sociopath come to mind.

Yup, and I actually thought I saw him again today. Hauling ass like a moron. I couldn't read his place, but it was the same generation Prius, and the licenseplate had the same coloring (could not read the plate, too far away). And he was cutting people up too. His ticket will be punched...

Nothing like 90 degrees, a 3 mile traffic jam and an air-cooled bike... Happens every day here in Louisville...every day

Yeah that guy is gonna end up on the news, either going to jail or with that Prius crumpled up like an old piece of tinfoil.
