Hey, now i havent done much...(any) research at all but as a noob vlogger i feel like a good way to get my YT channel of the ground would be to test bikes that arent my own...
recently i've seen C2W do millions of them, i guess he goes into a dealership pretending to be a potential buyer and they give him the show one.
At 19 (20 in september) with a full and totally unrestricted licence is there any chance for me to be able to test bikes new or used without 'finding a mate's to borrow'?
also i tried ducati (i know i didnt stand a chance) and they said i had to be at least 26 as i remember

I think you have to have age on your side, or in case of C2W also bring something to the table. He has a huge following and is known in the motorcycle world we live in. I bet bakerXderek, JakeTheGardenSnake and 6Foot4Honda could do the same thing if they wanted to.

You may find the odd dealer but it's a small chance.

They'd also think if you look like a buyer as well.

Dealers know the signs of people wanting to make videos

Even when planning to buy a bike it can be tough to arrange a test ride. My first bike it wasn't even an option, which in a way makes sense. I just recently got the Versys though, and being 30 compared to 20 makes a world of difference. I didn't even ask, I just told the guy I wanted to ride it and he got the key.

If you really just want to film, see if you can make friends with a manager at a shop or something. Even if you don't have a big following yet, free advertising is free advertising. Plus, you could try and work out something where you ride their bikes, then they can send potential buyers to watch your vids as a review of that specific bike, not just the model. Long shot maybe, and it would take a pretty sparkling personality, but you never know.

Different dealerships have different policies. Many will allow younger riders at ride 125, maybe 250, but anything else will be on the "big bike" policy. Some also want you to have had your licence for between 1 and 3 years.

Ha now days you cant even test ride a bike on craigslist without proving you have access to what they are asking, or having that money with you.

C2W has a deal worked out with the dealership that he gets the bike from. He always rides with bikes for Mountain Motorsports and gives them shoutouts and probably a ton of customers. His Georgia meetup was in one of their parking lots.

My local dealership does not do test rides. They don't even put fluids in the bike until after you buy it. There is a dealer in a city close to me that deals mainly in used bikes that is more willing to let people test what they have.

I kinda get the insurance limitations, but if I walk in and want to buy brand new and I had a long standing clean licence, and they say no test rides then I'd not buy. If I'm spending thousands on a new bike, I want to know it's right for me.

It's probably an age thing. You may have more success asking to test ride any used bikes at the dealers. Those bikes won't need any prepping. If you're insured to ride any bike, that helps.

Go to bike shops that have test bikes available. Try to avoid borrowing other people's private property to test, unless you are 100% committed to fully repair/replace the person's bike in case anything should happen. Bike shops are different because they have company insurance and you sign a waiver so that you can't sue them for any claims/damages should you crash the bike.

I recently was at Ducati sitting on a Diavel and within a few minutes they asked if I wanted to go on a test ride. I declined though because I had no intention of buying one nor did I have the time. Guy was really cool though, we continued shooting the shit and he gave me a tour of the entire shop.

Search around local motorcycle shop websites near you...summer is prime demo day time.

I must say dealers around me are very different in there way of doing test rides, For example the yamaha near me was all to happy to give me the keys and seemed almost to be forcing them down my throat which I didn't mind but I had no time to take advantage of it, Yet the kawasaki dealer near me has test days, But there few and far between and I would want to test it myself in my own way not on a pre-prepared route following someone else at a set speed, You cant get a feel for a bike like that (or review/vlog)

It's funny because when I get offered a test ride I feel bad because I have no intention of buying a new bike but also want to ride and review it, Damm Moral dilemmas!

A test bike (at the dealership), is just that, a test bike. You don't have to feel bad knowing you have no intention to buy that bike, because if you look at it in the bigger picture, by testing it, you get to know how that bike is like, and even if you yourself don't end up getting that bike, maybe your friend or friend's friend might be interested and you can share your experience with that bike with that person, and who knows that person might be convinced enough to go try it and buy it.

That's probably why some of the dealers don't mind letting you test even pushing you to try the bike, for all they know, you or someone you know could be persuaded to get the bike, and any sale is a sale worth getting.

:)

I would love to be big enough on YT to test ride bikes at a dealership & just promote them as a collateral.. Dealerships around here are a hit/miss with test riding. My favorite dealership you just have to fill out an application and they (usually) allow you to ride.

Went into the dealership, said I wanna test that bike (pointed to a 2009 fz6). Guy asked for my licence. Signed a waiver and off i went.
came back, easy.

Never tried any others though.
