General T'biker - View From A Blood Bike

T'Biker

Wannabie Member
All of my vlogs so far have been on my own bike, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to do one from a Blood Bike on my last shift.

In the video, I explain what Blood Bikes are, and a bit about what we do and how to get involved if you feel the need.

As usual I'm using my SJ4000 camera, and to be honest I'm pretty impressed with the footage, given it's all taken a silly o'clock in the night....

Next time, I'll try to one in the daylight.... ;)

And note the (not real) number plate at the beginning.... :p

Sorry about my ignorance, but is this your full time job or you're just volunteering? Are blood bikes used for organ transportation in emergencies?

Stop feeling sorry for the overnight pathologists. They fight for that job, it gets double time and possibly plus unsocial hours. They hate going back to daytime!

No problem! To be honest, the majority of people probably don't even know we exist, let alone the details of what we do.... :)

It's a voluntary role, which I do outside my normal Mon-Fri 9-5 job.

The blood bike groups are registered charities, run entirely by volunteers and rely solely on donations to survive.

We transport loads of different things: blood, breast milk for premature babies, medication, medical equipment, urgent files - Basically anything you can fit on a bike.

The service covers weekday nights (7pm - 7am) and 24 hours at weekends and Bank Holidays, and I get to do a half-week shift about once every six weeks or so at the moment.

LOL, the only reason I felt sorry for him is that he jumped right out of his skin. I was almost expecting that I'd need to carry him from Pathology to A&E to deal with a heart attack..... o_O

In fact Lee, if you've any questions about starting advanced riding, feel free to ask me, or pop a thread and then more can get info or ask questions.
