Hi,

Yesterday I went to Lidl just to make a video about "bad parking skills" or how some people park (unfortunately the audio was terrible). I found a small BMW that took up 2 spaces and I park next to it ( that car is always there).

The whole idea behind this was to go there the next day and leave a note or a letter informing him/her that there is a video on YouTube with there licence plates but it was raining today so I might do that next week...

Anyway I have a question to all you guys: What do you do when you see someone parking or leaving car in a bad place or taking too much space? and is there a way to stop them from doing that?

http://youtu.be/CiSaA3MEfJI - link to the video I was talking about.

When I park my car in an empty car park or if it's really windy I'll take up 2 spaces because you'll always get someone who'll let their door fly open and bash your car.

I, personally, don't think this is a fantastic idea. It's just provoking someone. They're not going to stop doing it, they're just going to get angry.

Complain about it under my breath. Shake my head. Mumble something about the state of the country. I'm basically an old man already.
There isn't really any way to stop someone doing that, unless you own the car park and ban them from entering.

When the car park is empty you can even park side ways, but just because its windy? I don't like that...

Friz The idea may not he be the best but I just hate when someone (like that BMW) leaves their car for 10 hours (or minutes) just to prevent from getting scratched...
It seams that every one is acting like you

If people are doing that just because they care about their cars so much, then why are those cars driven at all? there are stones, salt, water, birds, other cars and people out there that can make a mark on your "new" car...

Honestly I like parking a bike next to double parked cars for 2 reasons.

1. Kind of a "is this obvious enough, dumb s***?" I don't park on the driver side, because I don't need a crazy person not thinking it is funny and pushing over my bike or hitting it with their door.

2. Most parking lots don't have bike parking and if there is no good curb to park on I don't want to take up space in a crowded parking lot with my little bike so I see double parking idiots having a silver lining because it would happen anyways, now I can wedge in there and free ups spot for someone else.

Good points.
I really shouldn't park on that side... (I din't expect that car to move at 10am )
I usually go to those expensive car parks in the centre of a town just because they all have motorcycle space and you don't have to pay for it but if I ever gone go to that lidl again I'm going to park next to the entrance door on a unused pavement (no idea why they put it there ) or like spicy110 was doing in his videos.

Well one of the places I do that is in my local supermarket but since a) I work there and b) i own shares in the company I'm allowed to :)

I will be totally honest when i had a crappy car and i saw people that did that i would park right up next to their drivers door and climb out my passengers side. i cant stand people that take up 2 bays and i know it doesnt make me any better than them but i feel so enraged when i see it. In my mind if you are worried about people hitting your nice car then start damn walking and park at the back of the car park where no one goes and there wont be a high turn over of vehicals it is common sense.

you park youre bike in a space? bang it to the side or near the entrance (common sense needed).

Riding a bike is all about using the size of the bike to help traffic flow(filtering),parking (not taking a cars space).

Well done!, I knew there will be someone like you who knows everything and judges without reading... again Well done!

You've clearly watch the video, thank you but why are you trying to teach me how to park or why to ride a bike? it's not like I was there just to make a video... or is it? hmm

Like me? Don't be condescending.

I watched the video,I also watched you take time out of you're day to moan about a car park space when you could have parked closer yourself and enjoyed the benefits of riding a bike.

Honestly? I agree with BradfordBiker. You've gone out of your way, to get angry over, what is basically, an everyday occurrence. This happens everywhere. I see it every day. What do I do? Exactly what Friz does. Mumble, mutter, and groan. You're just creating confrontation. I live close to a supermarket that doesn't have motorcycle parking. What do I do? I park at the side of the store. It's better protected from the wind, and often has better CCTV coverage than the rest of the car park.

Oh and you were extremely rude to MrBradfordBiker. He was only telling you what he does, and how it works better for him. Your response was unjustified.

I work in a supermarket, and park my bike in the customer zone. I can tell you right now nearly every driver, no matter how sensible they think they are, at the end of the day does not give a flying f*** when it comes to parking.

There are so many good parking spaces available for motorcycles and every time a car will be a small car taking up the space of 10 bikes. Not forgetting the old ladies riding around in brand new SLK and attempting to reverse into my bay after I've started walking off (it's the only time you'll hear me curse at an elderly lady).

You may think parking beside the store on a bike is a good idea, wrong. I cannot leave the bike unattended 5 minutes without have families with small children letting them fiddle with the bike. I cringe every time I see a child grabbing a hold of anything sticking out on the bike and the parents walking off like they've got an invisible lead. Also lets not forget about dogs, turns out lampposts aren't the only thing they own.

One thing you'll learn when you visit a supermarket enough is...everyone is a d***

Maybe you're right but then again the point of that comment was that I did it for the video and that mrBradfordBiker is one of those people who ask/judge with out reading, I mean my the second reply on this forum say "but if I ever gone go to that lidl again I'm going to park next to the entrance door on a unused pavement (no idea why they put it there ) or like spicy110 was doing in his videos."...

and as for you MrBradfordBiker I had a loads of time off and unfortunately I was a bit ill so I didn't want to go anywhere far for riding, but I wanted to go outside. I sorry for being so rude but please read other comments because I just don't like replying the same question or comment over and over.

This is a forum,I expressed MY opinion about you're subject, yes again..I understand and (insert bold) READ your point in making the video about said topic.

My opinion is it was stupid,

Done :)

hehe, like You didn't do anything stupid? I mean every one do stupid stuff I just hate when there's a small car park and there are idiots taking up space just because they have a new car and I want to shear my point of view... which some people agree to and others don't

Come on guys, no need to get touchy!

Being honest, I understand every bodies view here. My other half bought herself a new Honda s2000 a few years back... Was driving with the roof down when someone actually spat into the car... People sometimes can get very jealous of what you own. So I think if I drive something like that, I would I) park as far away from the majority of shoppers as possible ii) try and make it so nobody will accidently damage the car. If the carpark was nearly full... I'd probably come back at a later date... I hate shopping.

In your vid, the BMW is as far away as possible and the carpark doesn't seem particularly busy, so I personally think it acceptable

That being said, if I had a car like that, I don't think I'd risk a supermarket carpark, I'd shop online instead.

In regards parking the bike, the supermarket near me has bicycle parking, and a fair few motorcycles park there, however I've always parked in front of the shop where there is large paved area that has bollards around it that the bike gets through, not many shoppers walk past said area.

I do get annoyed however by people who park in disabled bays, yet don't show a badge.
The other big annoyance of mine is the parent and toddler bays. Why have them? If its that awkward to get kids in and out of your car, don't take them shopping! Some of these bays would be easier access for disabled badge holders.

But that's just my opinion.

But that's just my opinion.

In the end it's just paint on some tarmac to most people. The biggest problem I have with disabled bays is that there just normal bays, there is not enough room for wheelchair support, and they all lack handrails so those less able to stand can have something to hold onto.

I could spend all day with hundreds of suggestions in order to improve parking availability and safety. However to change from a few painted lines costs millions which no one is willing to spend.

The bays at mine are yellow box marked around the bays, so plenty of room at ours. Just not grab rails.... If they were that frail, it's probably best to get someone to shop for you.

I think it gets to me more as the other halfs dad has had three strokes, three heart attacks, a knee replacement, a spinal implant, walks with a stick and has hearing issues, yet still has to park in a normal bay far away all because some body parked where they shouldn't.

Another annoyance... People who manage to get disabled badges and a free car on motability for stupid reasons such as "my son has 'ADHD' and its a disability" and before anyone tells me I may have just overstepped the mark a little or thinks that this is impossible to happen, my brother has got 4 kids, neither him or his partner work, yet they get spanking new ford cmax, car tax free, and tyres free plus a disabled badge all for the reason I have just mentioned.

The final annoyance for me...

Driving the car and thinking "if I was on my bike I'd have found a space half an hour ago"

Ok that's enough from me on this subject, I feel I'm starting to get my frustration out on this forum, and unfortunately, you guys and girls probably aren't therapists in your spare time
