Tail Bag Or Rucksack

well stupid hurts...
Then again where else you gonna put it?

I left my laptop and rucksack at work last night, as a test,

I felt naked without it, Free, but naked. Also it sucked when i realised after shopping for supper that i had no where to put it

I've got a Kriega backpack, its really comfortable, has a back protector built in, prefer riding with it now and feel a bit lost without it now

I have always been a fan of the magnetic tank bags and icon made one many years ago that turns into a back pack and has a noprene flap on the bottom so you can carry your helmet around comfortably. Now I prefer my hard luggage which I can carry five cases of beer and many snacks stuffed in between.

This was before we carried around our laptops and tablets regularly. I have no idea the effect the small rare earth magnets would have on things like that. Defineatly something to think about.

I'm not putting my laptop near any tank magnets! I have a top box, and if I didn't have one, the laptop would go in a laptop Peli in to a decent laptop rucksack. Not seen any large enough tailpacks yet.

Ive got a magnetic tank bag rotting away in the shed. Even since they started making bikes with plastic tanks it sort of became useless. The magnets are not near the contents of the bag, they are in flaps that run down the side of the tank. I dont think they would affect a laptop. Depends on the design I guess.

My bag has magnets in the wings, not sure about the base, but when you take the bag off, the wings fold under the bag anyway.

I don't know how much of a risk they are, my laptop has a solid state drive (MacBook) which may or may not be affected, but other components may be susceptible, and I tend to take my external with me in the same bag.

Hi all,

So I have little or no storage space on my bike and I am thinking about either just using a rucksack or getting a tail bag.

Which would you recommend?

Cheers.
I prefer a rucksack, it on right on your back so you are aware of it. And the weight can't move around.
But there are elastics with hooks on my tank to hold a second little rucksack.
On the other hand, it's weight on your back, depends what you are carying with you, if its just some paperwork or a drink, I don't see any problem.
But if you carry a lot of books to go to school or something. Its can be a pain in the ass, and in your back. It makes you less maneuverable, which is nessesary on a bike.
In the end, it's still about what you carry and what you personally prefer.

For commuting I use a backpack / rucksack. If I'm just out riding around, I prefer not to have anything on my back.

If I'm wearing a jacket, wallet and phone go to the inside pockets. If no jacket, wallet can go in back jeans pocket, phone can go into X-Grip holder.

i need an xgrip.

Wallet never goes in the back pocket though. Filled with too many mad stacks so i cant sit on it

I want an x-grip too, but This is Africa and it seems like an open invitation for re-appropiation.

I put my wallet and phone in my jacket pockets. My seat is uncomfortable enough as it is, I don't need a wallet digging into my butt cheek for that

I use a rucksack. Even when there's nothing in it. It's like a safety blanket. I'm a bit weird about tail bags; I'd always have the sneaking feeling that it's going to fall off while I'm riding. I have been considering tank bags though.

Ive seen riders carrying a spare helmet in them ...thats gonna hurt
In my country some even wear them on the elbow ... I mean, imagine ...

Personally I would recommend a tail bag, I would want to be as free from any tangling as possible when I come off
