Subs Vs Views

Just had a look at my channel, just wondering where views were on videos and so on.

I've now got 184 subs (gained about 50 over the last couple of months), and before when I had 120 wish I was getting 80-90 views per video within a couple of weeks or so, usually 40 views quite quickly. Since getting more subs, the views aren't increasing relative to subs. The interaction and comments on each video seems to be steady with the same core of people commenting.

I'm not that fussed about counts, the thing I'm happy with is people are watching and there's activity on vids which means I'm engaging some people enough, and I'm quite happy with the level it's at.

Having said that, some of my older vids are up to well over 100 views and a few have hit 200.

I just don't quite get the disparity. I know the people with thousands of subs don;t necessarily get more than 30% views to sub ratio, but I'd have expected on my small scale, an increase in subs would have meant a slight increase in views. I've also no idea where the latest subs have come from as it hasn't coincided with anything major.

Cheers!

It depends on how you got your subs I suppose.

For example, sub-for-sub swaps or other vloggers from these forums subbing you tend not benefit you in terms of views for example.

I always found my views to be way higher than my subs before I restarted my channel (86 subs but an average of over 120 views per video) but I have no idea what we're doing differently so I guess I'm not being useful here :P

I don't sub swap for the sake of it, done it a few times in the earlier days, of the last 50 subs most that have come are names I don't necessarily recognise. Been a handful from here that I've noticed

My apologies, I never meant to infer that you did!

I do think the channel sources have a big influence though, but it's pretty tricky to determine where they are from.

Perhaps directly ask in one of your videos for a comment about how they found your channel and if they're a subscriber?

I'm actually subscribed to you twice for example. Once from my Swiss Motard channel which never views any videos, and once from my personal channel, which views nearly every video that comes through my subscription list.

Wasn't a dig, just clarifying a point in case it helped.

Might do that, 16 subs off 200, so a thankyou vid and a little question as to how folk found me etc.

I think all my vids are equally rubbish haha!!

The video I have that has had the most views is one where another vlogger I mentioned in the title was being rude to the rear view camera.

It really depends on the content. I have +235subs on my channel and one video with 14.000 views as it's about a motorcycle that was recently presented at EICMA. So in relation to your channel this might mean the guys who subbed you probably watched your videos before anyways.

Did some more analytics digging, quite a lot of my older vids now have 150 views +/-10%, new subs must be working through chronologically. Forgot I had a helmet review in there with about as many views as subs...

I noticed over the past few weeks I have gone from about ~80 subs to about 107 now. I know I have been more active on social media I.E twitter, facebook, this forum and one other group. Also noticed my views and comments go up which has been exciting, more than the subs. I make sure to comment back on every one which has been fun as well. I think the motovlogging community seems to be growing as well as in its own genera on youtube. Either way congrats on your increase!

Cheers!

I am on Twitter, but no idea how to make the most of it. Posted a few things on there to little response despite a slowly growing follower base. Maybe I need to post more!!

I started out with just YouTube, but then added Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I joined this forum and some other forums. I post videos on Reddit (not my vlogs, my cars and coffee car videos) and that's about it. The #1 thing I like is the interaction. Subscriber count and view count is nice, but without the interaction it would be meaningless to me.

I have no idea how it works. Best wideo I did was when I mentioned Eminem was coming to Leeds in a couple of months and my son was going and I mentioned it in the title. Suddenly, while Eminem was here, hits went ballistic with kids thinking it was video of Eminem playing at Leeds. Lots of hits, but lots of dislikes lol

Slight change of direction on the topic, but it's not worth a new thread.

Posted a vid in YT earlier of my 6th episode of randoms. Not sure if it's because it's a cold Sunday evening, but it's gained views and likes really quickly relative to any of my other vids.

So is it boredom bringing them in, or just a surge in popularity of random collections?! Not complaining of course!

*caution - rant*

The only thing I'm on is Twitter. Forget Gaggle+, Facebook, etc... privacy is a real big thing for me. Some motovloggers have told me that I don't have to use my real name, but they get my IP address and target me that way, so it's close enough. The less those b@stards know about me, the better :p . The thing I really miss out on, though, is the interaction... that's why I target most of that here, but otherwise it is a but of a bummer not being able to comment or reply back to anyone anymore on YouTube :( ...

I know the day will come when I am forced to join Gaggle+... but it's my goal to be the last holdout :p . I've been a member of YouTube before Google owned it (those two brothers who invented it owned it, forget their names :p ), so I'll be d@mned if Google makes me become one of their personal information strumpets.

(now if I could only remember my username prior to 2006 on YouTube ~_~ .....)

*rant over*

I figured that if girls will use their real name with face being to focal point of their videos and gain sooo many subs than I shouldn't have to worry about any meager number of subs I'll gain to get an unhealthy interest in my hairy face.
