Stock 2006 Drz400 Sm Trip Meter Won't Count

I have been googling for a few days and have not seen anyone with the same problem as mine that could help me here. As it seems most people are just having an issue with the entire speedo not working while mine is only the trip meter not counting up.

I recently bought a second hand 2006 DRZ400SM with the original stock instrument cluster.

When fully plugged in, the speedometer works accurately.

Using a PDF of the DRZ's manual I found online, I set Trip A and B to count additionally, and reset it to 0, and then made it display Trip A and the Odometer.

However the trip meter still won't count above zero. I have tested selecting trip A and B, and using the addition and subtraction buttons to see if the display was working properly, it was, and I was able to manually adjust the numbers displaying on the Trip Meters.

I took it back to the shop I bought the bike from and had the mechanic take a look at it, he disassembled the sensors at the front wheel and turned it by hand to ensure it was running properly, and it did turn the speedo, but not the trip.

He says the instrument panel itself is shot and will require replacement.

Is it true that my instrument cluster will require replacement of the entire unit if i want a functioning trip meter? Or is this something that can be fixed by wiring, or am I just stupid and set up the cluster wrongly?

To add on, after some additional googling, it seems the DRZ's trip won't count if the odo hits the max 99,999km. Mine being a second hand has also hit the 99,999km on the odo and won't continue counting, thus the non-functioning trip meter.

Anyone knows how to reset the odometers on these things?

It's something to do with the cluster. The cable from the front wheel is getting the speedo signal so it's getting all the input it needs just isn't going to the trip meter. I have a trail tech voyager and I love it. You can set up the speed to read off gps speed and it will track where you have been. There is a ton of features on it. Probly cheaper then a new cluster also.

I'm pretty sure you can't reset a odometer. That would mean you could go 1 million miles and reset it to 0 ride for 10 miles and say it's a new bike.

I'd rather avoid having to buy a new cluster if I can help it. The entire thing works perfectly fine, just that the digits on the trip meter isn't counting up.

its not like you really need it. i never look at mine. for oil changes i just do it around every 2 weeks or 3. for gas a wait till it runs out then switch it to reserve and go right to a gas station. you have about 10 miles or so on reserve.
