Squids and so on

Hey, mate, please explain why you disagree with this. If it's "insurance", then ... Insurance is a personal choice (except where it is mandated to cover the other party etc). If somebody deems insurance to be a waste of money and they don't need it, then they don't buy it. And if somebody deems insurance to be their greatest backstop then they will have lots of it. Personal choice. Don't dislike insurance simply because it makes you make a decision.

i disagree with the point you made about falling off with nothing but what mother nature gave you and you being fine. even at low suburban speeds i would not want to come off with no gloves. im sure you wouldnt likely die from it but recovering from skin being torn off is a long and painful process.

i think i am approaching this topic from a different perspective to both you and alchemy69.
it is my opinion that if you were to have a scale of 1-10 with 10 being fatal with no gear and 9 being alive but so close to death, if you were wearing all the correct protective gear 9 times out of 10 you will be better off than not wearing anything. of course there are those crashes where no amount of protection will save you but i would not include them in any comparisons regarding ATGATT.

and for the accidents that do happen where the rider survives, the medical costs (either to him or the cost to the government for supplying the service) would be alot higher if he was wearing nothing. the rider would need alot more treatment and visits to the doctor. i think this amount would far outweigh the personal cost of buying the correct riding gear.

i really enjoy this topic and listening to other peoples points of view, especially when it can be discussed in an appropriate manner. at the end of the day i do agree with what has been said in regards to it being each persons individual choice, and as long as that person can live with the consequences of their decision, then thats all that matters. i certainly dont lose sleep or put much thought into what other people are wearing while im riding

i think the speed limits should be loosened alittle, on every highway ive been on you could ride comfortably at 120, car or bike, i think 55mph is too slow

the main thing i dont like about the whole situation is the hate and name calling and insulting of people for a choice they made that affects noone else, if you promote it then promote it but theres no reason to label and insult people about it ( not saying any of you have ), i dont care how anyone feels about it, its just the hate that drives me nuts

Mate, we agree. We may disagree with some minor points, but mostly we agree. We ride, therefore we choose. RSMF.

Mate, we agree.
I disagree to agree with your agreement! Its my personal choice to agree and you are preventing me from agreeing by myself. Now allow me to agree or disagree in an agreeable manner. ;)

Seriously tho, its a good topic for discussion and I love to sit on the fence and spit on both sides of the argument for giggles. (I do privately wonder if those who I see squidding it up have even considered the risks involved however - I like to think that they havent as that is my only mental justification for them not wearing at least some gear.)

I agree to the too many levels of agreement and disagreement. My brain can only hold 4, err, maybe 3, that is a nice rose outside my win..., make that 2, levels of ... what are we talking about?

i was just asking peoples opinions this wasnt said to make people get mad, i was just curious to how people view the world of other riders :) just interested to read peoples views on it and as that i respect all of your views, its just insight on things that can open your views on something

I am totally squid supreme.... I wear a helmet and thats about it. I've been fucked in accidents a few times and it sucked... it'll probably happen again and when it does you can all say I told you so lol. I weigh the options between wearing a jacket and being uncomfortably safe or rolling in a tank top and feeling great... I choose comfort. Might bite me in the ass one day, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I see people riding with only a helmet all the time. Usually they're in shorts, sandals, and a t-shirt or tank top. The only thing that comes to my mind is "What an idiot. " There is 0 reason imo to not wear gear.

Always gloves, always helmet, always pants. I used to love going out for a easy cruise just in a tshirt though...

Agreed. If someone chooses to just ride in a secluded area, or somewhere that there are little to no cars, and you are going at a slower speed, then it is not recommended, but I believe it is okay to ride with nothing but a helmet.

As for my thoughts on squids in the city, or on the highway, I think no less of them. But the thing is that I see some of them doing wheelies on the highway... These are the guys I look at and say "Wow thats pretty cool!... but think about your life for a second... If you crash, you are holding on for your life, and you may not get back for dinner with your family.

I don't know who else is in the military, but in my situation, we have to wear long sleeve shirts, pants, gloves, helmet, over ankle boots, Eye Protection(unless you have a full face) and reflective vest. BUT I could roll out of the house in a thermal shirt and some yoga pants and they would be ok with that, even though it will do nothing but put cloth into my wounds if I crash lol.
If you DO Crash and get hurt while NOT wearing ALL of the above, they will not pay your health insurance, you will lose rank and forever be banned from riding a motorcycle while in the military, and god forbid you die, they will NOT pay out your life insurance to your family, thats unfortunate but our rules are different.

I sometimes go out with like a hoodie on or something, but I know it wouldnt do anything for me, but the leathers are in the mail! :)

if you sliding long enough to melt your jacket, you were going to fast anyways

In a perfect world we should all wear gear, decent quality stuff. but alas thats not going to happen

As for those who dont, well i do think they are a little silly. but its his skin, not mine

has anyone actually crashed in a textile jacket? if you have you will reliase you dont need to be speeding to go through them, my weise and alpinestar one have both done the same

Some people without gear like to thing those of us who wear ATGATT are silly, but I will NEVER downgrade my gear to please someone else or to make my self look "cooler" ESPECIALLY when it comes to helmets, I don't understand it, helmets look WAY cooler than someones face blasting in the wind or all sunburnt at a red light lol

but to each their own
