I'm looking to get a seperate dictaphone style voice recorder to catch the audio while my gopro gets the images, but when I've been looking (mostly on ebay) the prices seem to vairy wildly. Is there a model or brand that folk on here recommend? Is there any I should avoid?
Thanks in advance.

I use a Olympus DS-40 with a cheap Konig mic, it's not bad. Sometimes I wish I could turn the sensitivity down more than the lowest setting allows but overall it does the job. Syncing the sound to the GoPro footage is a whole different kettle of fish though, as any two recording devices' inner clocks will never match perfectly. It needs a bit of fiddling with in the editing software, line them up, speed one track up, see if it's synced, repeat... Though it's not so bad once you've done it a few times :)

Could try the zoom h1, it's known for great sound quality and affordable price. Be aware if you put a bad mic on a any recording device it's still going to be bad.

I use a Tascam DR-05 ... which is comparable to the Zoom H1... one is slightly bigger, one is slightly better built. Depends on your requirements, they're the same price.

As as Rhydian said, it's about the mic. Don't spend excessive amounts but don't get too much of a cheapo mic.

However, you are aware you can plug in a mic straight into the GoPro Hero HD 2 right?
