So This Happened Today

  • So last night my bike wouldn't start after I slid down a hill climb. Did a leak down and lost 90% so pulled the head. Looks like I'm forced into putting my big bore on

Web cams already ordered with a custom grind along with +1 valves better spring kit and my head will be ported and new seats and guides in 2 weeks.

I wish i had your mechanical aptitude
its not very hard to learn. the crazy stuff i know is helicopters. its something you learn by doing. motorcycle engine are very simple. when you go to big bores and strokers its a little tuff but if you have the right parts everything should go together just fine.

I know im a bumbling idiot. I bought the shop manual for my bike. Its very fulfilling to work on mechanics. Im just a dunce with a lot of learning to do

manuals are usually not the greatest. forums will tell you the easy way to do things and people do all kinds of mods on the forums. people show you step by step and explain everything with pictures. i can never do that kinda thing. i just get it done and I'm like maybe i should have taken pictures o well lol.

So I pulled apart the drz today in some free time I had at the shop.

So I found my rings are stuck from the sand coming threw my engine. I would have had to diamond hone my cylinder and replate it.

Some of the sand I saw on top of the piston.

everything on the inside looked fine. I went threw the whole motor and nothing was worn or broken. I'm sending my trans off to get isotropic treatment done for better shifting and longer life.

Also found some sand at the bottom of the case when I split it apart.

So as of now I'm going with a 480 kit that I have had for about a year. It's a +5.5mm piston and +4 mm crank. I have a set of web cams custom ground coming along with ferrea +1mm valves and ferrea Spring kit. I'm also getting my carb bored from a 39mm to a 43mm. The head work is gonna be done at the shop with new valve guides and seats made from moldstar 90. This material is very very good at removing the heat from the valve. It's a very good material to make seats out of. It will be hand ported in the shop by my friend who has done over 10k heads for small motor high performance builds. I'm hoping to make 60hp or even a little more. This should be one of the highest hp drz.

Oh what a shame you're forced to put your big bore kit on ;) .. this better mean bigger and better wheelies and jumps!

I gotta hold off till I break in the bike. It should mean bigger wheelies after that and I'll have more power to launch on the jumps lol but I will most likely spin on the top like I do with stock engine power. But what it does mean is sitting and waiting till it warms up

I understood approx 0.5% of what was said in your posts.
Lol I sucked in sand and it messed up the motor. pretty much everything I said I'm doing make its way faster and stronger. It will be forged which makes things stronger but you cant go anywhere on your bike till it warms up.

With that increase in power are you gonna be doing any regearing? Maybe going 1 or 2 tooth down on the rear sprocket to get more top end speed?
