Yeah....what it says above really.

Coming out of work, about 15mph, and I slid on some loose gravel. The bike went over, and landed on my left leg.
The bike has a bent gear shifter, and a cracked mirror and indicator, but otherwise is ok, my leg took the damage.
However, my leg hasn't come off so well, and I've been left barely able to walk. The whole weight of the bike, with a full tank of petrol landed on my leg (about 165kg) I couldn't even get the bike off my leg, and needed help from a chap on an F800GS to get it off.
I bodged the bike to get home, but I've been left barely able to walk, my leg has swollen right up, and is possibly the worst pain I've ever been in.

Needless to say, I really don't know if I can make the Brighton Burn Up on Sunday. Even if the bike is fixed, I've got to be 100% fit to deal with the amount of miles I'd be doing. Massive apologies to anyone expecting me there, especially Extreme601, Curly, and The Female Biker, whom I was supposed to be meeting.

On a sidenote, I'm having doubts about whether biking is where I want to be right now. I had a Police bikesafe course on Sunday, and the instructor said that I was an accident waiting to happen, and now 2 days later I do this. Maybe I'm being melodramatic, but I saw my familys faces as I got home, after ringing to say I'd crashed and hurt myself. I don't know.

On a parting note, I'll say this,

WATCH OUT FPR THE FECKING GRAVEL

Happens to all of us mate, it's no reason to stop riding, I know i'm no police man or anything like that but all the times i've ridden with you you've been fine so no need to worry. It's also normal to have these discussions with yourself, hell, i have them everytime i have a near miss, and on several occasions i've been close to giving up, but I just can't :)

Really surprised by this, what was it he said you were doing wrong? I wouldn't give it too much thought, man!

Bad judgement calls, excessive speed for the road conditions, making decisions too late, making bad decisions. Honestly, I watched my footage back from the day, and I have to say, he was right.

Glad to hear you aren't too badly hurt, but you need to get your leg checked out!

As I said over Skype, it isn't worth quitting riding for this, skills can be improved and habits can be changed :)

yep that is what i was going to say ... you just got to keep at it and in time it gets better

Thanks everyone. I honestly cannot say what I'm going to do. There are personal circumstances as well to consider when owning a bike, and doing the amount of city miles I do, It'd be selfish of me not to consider friends and family when things like this happen.
I'm getting my leg x-rayed tomorrow, as it looks like it might be broken, leaving me off the bike for a long time. I will of course keep you all updated with things.

Cheers again everyone :)

Lot of us have been there and the emotions your having now will tug you this way and that for the next few days.

Just glad your ok and the leg will heal in time.

really sad to hear that mate but it was a easy thing to happen to anyone really doesn't mean you should quite riding also if you wasn't a able rider you would not have a full licence.

heal up mate and be safe

Ahhh man :/ i hope your okay and your leg heals up soon! As to biking, it is up to you at the end of the day, if you dont feel safe then dont push yourself :)

Damn, sorry to hear BikerMole :( Hope your leg gets better soon, that damn gravel is out to get us all! Made me crash before and I didn't even go over it :P I hope you don't get put off biking, don't give the instructors word too much thought, even if he was right on the day. You would have felt under pressure on the day of your course so therefore more inclined to make mistakes, if you really do feel that he was right then use it to your advantage and get thoose bad habits sorted! :)

That's what my boss told me today. But at the time, I felt as if I wasn't doing anything wrong.

I second what that, but wanted to add. Anyone who gets up after an accident and rides home while in pain is a real biker in my book.

+1 and to add a true bloke

Just catching up on the forum and saw this. Really sorry to hear about it, matey, and hope your leg recovers quickly!

Pretty much everyone feels they are riding/driving really well, but remember that you don't get an objective perspective on your own performance. I don't recall anyone riding badly on the Crackn meet, so probably the worst of being assessed was knowing you're being judged, as others have suggested, but everyone should always try to think about things that they could improve on. If it helps, think of it as a game and score yourself. Then next time, try to beat your score.

Most importantly, don't give up just because you've had some criticism. It's true that you are vulnerable on a bike, but if you start down the road of stopping doing something you love because of what might happen, that's the road to the Dark Side. You can end up fearing to walk down the street because you tripped over. And regrets later in life over this sort of thing can eat you up. Think carefully about any decision you make.

Sorry to hear about that man, my advice would be to get riding again asap. Even if it's just a ride round the block, I feel that getting riding again helps to put an accident into perspective.
