been looking at this and it seems pretty decent for the price http://www.amazon.co.uk/ContourROAM-Wat ... -1-catcorr

i'll be getting a 2 year warranty with it so that brings it up to £169

also , does it come with a helmet mount or do i have to buy that myself ? ( which would bring it up to £187 )

And finally what about a mic , does it come with one or do i have to buy it

You don't need the 2 year warranty with it, it's not a drift.

Mount comes in the box.

No mic. There's no external mic port.

awesome , cheers :D

is the sound ok without a mic then ?

so all i will be spending is the 144.50

I use a separate dictaphone and mic inside my helmet, which I then sync it in editing.

It's the easiest way to record your voice when using a contour.

You can't use the internal mic on the contour to record your voice :)

The contour roam is the best bang for buck camera out there.
As for the dictaphone, I use a cheap thing I got for £30, but its only lasted 6 months.
If you have the money, get an Olympus DS-30

Contour ROAM I got myself about 2 weeks ago and I would buy it over the gopro because its cheaper and delievers a good result, I record in 720p and I am more than happy with that quality..

As for voice recording, I go for the DS-40, I got it 2nd hand on ebay for around £25 I believe, works amazingly and I then sync it up in editing after, like Friz does..

I bought my ROAM from a surf shop near me for around £199 for the basic model, so your getting a good price.. I dont know about warrenty, but I havent got one, so i'll jus be careful lol

Start both the camera, and the voice recorder at the same time.
In editing, find a reference point in both the video and audio, I usually find closing a visor, or hitting the the ingnition create both a visual, and audio cue, and then you match them up.

I think most people work out our own individual system that gets the best results.

I just turn on both at more or less the same time and say three two one while I do three two one with my fingers for the camera and then sync those points together in editting after.. I do it twice so I have two points of reference

I do the same but from 1 to 5. Very easy and gives you loads of points to make sure its sync'd!
