I initially bought a Dji Mic 2 for my Osmo Action 4 but hated the sound. I recently got the Hollyland Lark Max mics and while syncing the audio sometimes is a pain in the ass, I am really happy with the sound. I usually mount one of the pieces to my chin curtain and the other I stash in my backpack for ambient sound. Works really well IMO.

Because of the magnetic clip, I was able to mount my DJI Mic 2 on my rear fender and capture great exhaust notes on my Action 4. I posted a video with the results.

On my Aprilia Tuareg 660, I am generally riding a little slower out on the trails, so I don't use a chin curtain on my ADV helmet, it gets good engine sound and also helps pick up the voice of other riders when we are sat nattering to each other (although is still very quiet). On my road bikes, I wear a full face helmet which I do have a chin curtain on due to the increased speed and therefore increased wind. I also tend to ride tarmac solo more so it is less important to be able to chat to others.

If you only want decent engine/surrounding sound, get a Windslayer for the camera.

If you also want to actual vlog while riding (record your voice), I believe the newer Cardo intercoms support recording to the phone.

I still use my GoPro 7 that I got for vlogging on its release, I always refused to get the expensive and bully mic adaptor of poor quality so I got a Røde Smart Lav + lavalier mic and recorded my voice on my phone, together with the Windslayer I could mix in more engine sound from the GoPro if needed.

Now I use the Insta360 X3 as my main camera and simply got the 20$ mic adapter so I no longer have to sync the audio to the video (which doesn't take long at all using visual sound waves).

If I'd to use a newer GoPro for voice recording I'd probably look for a second hand media mod tough.

I'm sticking with my mic 2 and position to record me, I've now got a new lead and attenuator cable inline to record my Cardo to a Sony Voice recorder. We'll see how that goes with the attenuator inline, it's perfect with a telephone call and music even on max volume cos it stops the distortion. The real test will be with the intercom recording. I tried the Cardo app recording and it seems tinny to me

What kind of background noise are you getting? Horns honking for you to slow down, speed up, or get your autograph?

Basically wind noise. All the drivers around me are too busy playing on their phones to worry about how fast or slow I'm going... and they surprisingly do not recognize me for the YouTube Star I am!
