Riding With A Selfie Stick

Chcknstrps

Riding is life!
Hey guys!

I've been experimenting a bit with riding with a GoPro on a selfie stick. It gives really cool camera angles in corners and in group rides. I really like the result!

I don't quite like the fact that I need to hold it though :') The overal experience of riding one-handed with a selfie stick in the other made me feel a bit moronic. It's just soooo dangerous.
I'm not sure if you guys have any experience with riding around with a selfie stick? I don't mind having to hold it and swirling it around, but I'm kind of thinking about adding a clip to my bike where I can store the selfie stick or something along that line of thought. Maybe a improvised swiveling joint? Do you guys have any suggestions?

To top it off an example of the camera angle I really like. Don't worry, we've only been riding like this on an abandoned parking lot.

The one reason I haven't done this is because of the fact I have no where to set it when I want to use the other hand. That and I can't exactly really fold it back up while riding.

Bad, bad idea. I tried it once on a quiet stretch of straight road, you can't guarantee keeping it out the way and you can't get the controls in an emergency situation. So there ended the experiment. Maybe a pillion could hold it, but that would he it.

You could always wrench a pole clamp onto your bike with a ball head swivel. Then place your GoPro on a selfie stick on it.

You can try strapping it to your body or bike, I'm not huge on having one hand "tied" to holding a selfie stick. If you must, maybe a pillion. Then again I have friend that can ride semi off-road over a bridge while recording with his camera phone. So, yeah.

I'm guessing if you were in the UK, you'd get busted with 3 points on your licence and a fine at the least......I have a feeling, it would be classed as dangerous riding/drive which could be a ban

But anyway.. I don't like the idea of a stick, well, sticking from a bike...What happens if you bin it? Take my word on this, you can really hurt yourself without a stick being rammed through you

Yeah, the one hand being tied up doing other things is why I didn't actually go through with it. I might try the ball swivel but I'm guessing I can't be bothered in the end.
As for the helmet it's an AGV AX-8 Dual Evo Carbon.
As for your comment Dandoolittle, I've only done it on private property. To specify, the abandoned parking lot at my work. I wouldn't actually just head out on it, don't worry.

I can only think of a fixed bar mount up front. The swivel idea may work, but I think the stick and camera with all that leverage will be too much to hold with a swivel mount that's not locked down.

I bet you could make a holder out of a correct length of PVC pipe capped on one end and then mount it using a combo of RAM mounts.

I shot a little bit with a selfie stick but it was on a back road where there was little to no one present. When coming onto turns I would place my selfie stick between my leg and seat to hold it into place. As for using it while on busy roads, probably not...too risky. You can get some really good shots from a selfie stick though.

I know right?! Pretty dangerous but the shots are awesome! Friend of mine and I are currently checking out if we can make a selfie rig.. :')

I've seen some on ADVRider that have it mounted from the rear. It provides a really nice 3rd person view similar to like a video game or something.

We are checking if we can make something like that. But are also contemplating one that swivels around on the left side and can be locked at angles. It's difficult though as I don't want to end as a shishkebab impaled on some silly contraption.
