Hi all,

Long time guys, no see :) . Got a question for you all... had a little spill a few weeks ago on some gravel in the dark - nice of the construction workers to put it down :p heh~ *facepalm*. Anyways, got a bit of road rash on my left fairing, left under cowling and upper cowling. I've been debating this in my head for a while now... still haven't come to any conclusions, so wonder what you guys would do if in the same situation :o ~...

The obvious options:

*Repaint:
--Pros: Cheap depending on route taken (Color Rite).
--Cons: Looks not-the-greatest; may not match.

*OEM replacement:
--Pros: Looks like it should; fits like it should; color match (mostly); can remove decals without it looking obvious; flexible plastics; no warping.
--Cons: $$$$$ (looking upwards of over $500); another small spill and then $$$$$ >< !

*Aftermarket replacement (fill or partial):
--Pros: Cheaper; need to replace down the road - no pain win the wallet; close to OEM; looks new (fill replacement).
--Cons: Can warp; may not match (partial replacement); may crack; not as flexible; drill holes may be off; may degrade worse over time; who knows where it comes from???!

...so what would you do :/ ? Looking forward to hearing what you guys say thanks a ton for the advice in advance ^^ !!!

Cheers ^_^ ~

Depends how new the bike was, with my 02 I'd leave it if it was just scraped up, I'd only replace if it was hanging off/ the bolts broken.

With few exceptions, motorcycles are a depreciating investment, just like cars. Get the touch-up paint from Color Rite and take your time and it will look good enough. Paint, rubbing compound, polishing compound and wax will make it look just fine unless it comes under close scrutiny. If you are just OCD or are trying to keep it pristine as an investment, OEM replacement or Factory Authorized paint job is the way to go. In the second case, though, you shouldn't be riding it a whole lot, anyway.

Sorry to hear of your fall, any pictures? Which option to pick largely depends on how much the damage is, try to remove the part and inspect closely, look for snapped tabs or cracks, usually impact to the plastic is not just focus around the rash area.

Replace with racing ones if you can.. Paint them what you like

KEEP THE OLD OEM ONES, get them repaired over time and fit them when you wanna sell the bike
