Registration Plate Sizes. [uk]

@2WheelVandal
If you're not from the UK, then this thread won't relate to you.

Anyways....

Is anyone here or has anyone ran a plate size smaller than the typical barn door of 9x7?

I have been looking around on the net and by DVLA law, there isn't any specific 'plate' size.

I'm currently looking at going to an 8x6 or even a 7x5 (cutting it fine). But wondering if anyone has had any bad luck running these sizes.

I did run a small plate on my 125cc Yamaha without any issues in 4 different counties (Dorset, Hampshire, Devon and Berkshire). And that was with a left hand side Yamaha logo graphic (i think that was 7x5 as it was fairly small) - See image attached.

I have seen a few cases from 'Dorset No Excuse' on facebook where they have pulled a few up on "illegal number plates" but there was no sizing or pictures for reference...

9x7 is regulation.

If your force is anything like North Yorkshire then they'll do you for a small plate if it's obscured, or, you're riding like a bellend and they can't do you for that, so give you a plate ticket as a reminder that you're fortunate not to be getting points for something more serious.

Interesting stuff. What is with the red reflector? my bike passed MOT without one :D Is that just for smaller plates or?

At the rear of every motor vehicle in the uk, it must show a red reflector.

I believe it's in type approval as well.

But you often see the red dot ones on bikes, and not all MOT testers care.

News to me :O but thanks for clearing that up (Y)
