Reg plate

Hey all,

I have started to take motovlogging a bit more serious this year.I have just recorded a video and whilst editing realised I have my reg plate clear to see.

Do you think I should worry, blur it out and just leave it ?

Haven’t posted the video yet but just want to get thoughts if I am overthinking it?

Hi Paul, unless you are doing anything illegal then I'd not bother blocking it out... hundreds of people see your reg everytime you go for a ride, so a few folk on YouTube will not make a difference.
If you are riding in a way that may raise the eyebrows of the local constabulary, then that is between you and your conscience as to if it is needed.

As a side note, I do tend to try to avoid filming my reg, but if it is in shot and that shot is integral to the video, I won't blur or edit it out

When I've done garage style vids, then I often throw a rag over the number plate.

Yeah that’s what I should have done.Still new to this.Happy with the video so didn’t want to re-record that whole part.I only have 7 subs so guess no one will see it anyways.Going to do the tag idea going forward.

I did have a scooter plate cloned years ago , that’s what made me a bit nervous

I recommend blurring it out. I saw a channel recently put out a video [Cycle Fanatix I think it was] who got tickets in the mail from out of state because someone copied his license plate and put it on their own bike, racking up fines.

FWIW, I always blur out my plate, and have since day 1. While regular people see it every day, it isn't on the internet.

Wohooo cheers for that. yeah a few with that name but I spend far too long trying to think of something original and in the end I went with Noname simply that I could not decide a name

It DOES make your channel harder to find, but it's probably not a big deal longer-term anyway. My channel is downright unfindable if you search for it, but people find it anyway, and my 2nd channel is kinda the same. Only change it if you come up with a better name.

Weighing in late to the game but here is my 2 cents American. Someone can find who we are and our information IF they are skilled enough.

One of the guys I served with in the Army can geolocate like a pro. One time he messaged me with the satellite photo of my house. He sleuthed about doing reverse image searching and other jiggery-pokery and nailed it.

So is blurring worth it? Maybe. It would slow down the dumb bad actors however, it will not make us totally safe. Keep that in mind if you plan to act out on camera because Johnny Law does have the skills to figure things out.

Case in point - looks at what happened to Gixxer Brah who filmed himself riding 150 mph in Colorado here in the states. He got ID'ed. The authorities built a really tight case that it was him (real name is Rendon Dietzmann).

Personally after my info was hacked as part of a Federal IT breach over a decade ago, I don't bother trying to be too incognito. However, I never write my phone number any place public. Learned that lesson from Tommy Tutone.

I agree, @R-Rated - it slows down bad actors. Just like locks - they keep people honest and slow down bad actors.

I don't do anything too stupid on camera, but why risk it?

I'd be more worried about someone copying my plate number and racking up fines in my name. That's a headache I don't want to deal with. A few minutes here and there to prevent it is an easy choice to make.

I did blur my plate in my early videos, but later just could not be bothered with it. It's not very often it is in the video and I don't really put up any videos about me doing something that would make the law enforcement to want to spend resources on me.
If you do, then I'd blur the plate even if the bad stuff is in other videos. Because it's not that difficult to go through the whole channel, to see what else you have uploaded.
And @Drakhen99 over here we have a saying - locks are for animals, people get past them.

I did blur it in capcut but for some reason when I uploaded to YouTube the blur was so minimal it was still visible.I removed the blur as it looked bad and uploaded.

Anyways I take solice in the fact no one will watch my first few vids but going forward I am deffo going to be more careful.

Luckily I don’t really ride fast so I am not too worried about getttinf myself into trouble speeding on camera etc.

Check if you have more blur filters, some of them may be adjustable too. The editor I have, has like 4 or 5 different types and they work with different usability, in different conditions.
