hey guys i recently got some 3m adhesive tape stuff for my bag and i have a bit left over so decided i should put it on my helmet, question is is it save to put it on without it doing damage to the shell?

I've used 3m stuff on my helmet before, didn't have an issue. crashed with said 3m stuff on helmet.... Helmet did its job :)

i think a lot of people use 3m products to stick their helmet camera mounts.

I've got some reflective tape on the back of my helmet, apparently it stands out really well under a headlight, so well worth it!

3M tape it what holds my drift mount on so I'm assuming its fine! I think in most cases manufacturers are just covering their arses when placing warnings or disclaimers on this sort of thing.

I got some in the pack when i got my Shark helmet, stuck it straight on. I dont really have any shame over things like that as Rhydian said if it saves your life then all good!!

I do remember going back to what you were actually asking when i was a kid we were akways told not to put stickers on crash helmets as it can affect the way they work, still to this day i cant understand how

The solvents used in the adhesive can eat into the bonding used in the helmet shell. Over time, this can create a weak point.

Different stickers use different adhesives so will have different effects and modern helmets will likely be more resilient to most "standard" adhesives, but you won't know for sure.

I would be surprised if there was any measurable effect during the normal lifetime of a helmet (we all replace them regularly every few years, don't we? ), however if you had an accident and your helmet failed while being plastered with stickers, the insurance and helmet manufacturer might try to weasel out of any compensation.

Many years ago, you used to be able to go to provincial airports and get a peek of your lid in the x-ray machine if you asked very nicely. This shows up stress patterns and can identify weak points. Not really an option these days.

Personally, I have a camera mount stuck to my helmet and wouldn't worry about sticking some reflective tape on it.

This message represents my personal opinion and I am not an expert and am not recommending any particular practice, blah, blah, blah, don't even think of being able to sue! ;)

Well i have learnt something today :D Interestingly i always thought it was because it didnt allow the force to be evenly distributed by rippling on impact, that was my screwed idea on it however lol.

Yeah i cant really see walking into an airport with a motorbike helmet going down well :D

after posting i realized that my helmet had brand/manufacturer stickers all over it. at first i thaught nothing of them as i thaught they mite be painted on or something but nope they are stickers so im guessing one sticker traded for another (pulled them straight off :P ) wont do anything to them even tho the reflective tape seems more sticky.
