Hey,
I'm planning to record a few hours each day on a trip to the North Cape (about 8k-10k km total) which would obviously be too much for a 64gb memory card. Using a laptop to copy over the video files wouldnt be practical (how to recharge that humongous battery if you're not staying in hotels all the time? :? )
Do you guys know if it's possible with any of the gopro's contour's or drift's to record to an external HDD?
Thanks in advance

You could always buy a couple extra SD cards, and mark them up for different purposes?

For example: 64GB card 'main trip', 16GB 'stops and rests', 4GB 'refreshments etc'.

I know it seems like a bit of a bother changing cards every time you stop, but it's an idea?

I would get a small power inverter and a netbook. charge the netbook while riding with the inverter, then copy files off the card during stops.

id try and use my phone i have this cable for my android that alows me to plug in memory pens/ portable hard drives so i put the memory card from my camera into my phone and copy the content onto hard drive

I don't own a smartphone (I'm cool like that :) )
I think I'll go with the SD card backup thing because the starter of my bike is pretty prone to consume lots of battery load - I don't think loading something else than the battery just to stall the bike somewhere  would be the best idea
(and then try to jumpstart the bike and kill the engine control unit  )
