Recorded My First Vlog This Morning

Having something to say will not be a problem for me...actually keeping my mouth shut will be. I had little intention to actually vlog for 20 minutes this morning, yet as I rounded the corner to the last road before work I thought "you need to wrap this up buddy!"

I can't wait to edit the video tonight when I get home but I'm thinking I'll need to cut it down and possibly make 2 vids out of it.

Words of advice accepted, do I need to tape an outline on my tank to keep it to the point?

We'll let you know after we see the viddy-yo.

Okay but how do you handle content? There's plenty of time to eviscerate my video after I upload it.

BTW - since I'm new and all, take anything I say that sounds like I'm being a jerk as sarcasm...it's just what I do.

I'm really not a fan of the "vlog about a topic not related to the video" format so I'm probably not the best one to ask advice from. :p

Well you'll love this video...like one big run on sentence about whatever flashed in my mind at the moment. I think the only reason I had a topic is b/c it was my first video.

Just enjoy doing it, be natural. Even if that means you don't stay on topic(s) for an entire video, the more you do it, the better you will get at it, you will develop your own style. Watch other vloggers from all aspects not just the ones consider favorites. Watch other new vloggers, etc etc.

Just like riding speaking takes practice, speaking while riding takes even more practice.
Good luck!

Editing is quite an art, not only in the design aspect, but in the art of summarizing and deciding what do you take out and what do you emphasize on the go. I'd recommend: load the videos, cut those parts that are NOT interesting AT ALL. You'll then work with something more... "understandable". Then cut a bit more. When all you have is somehow interesting things, make like a top 5 (or whichever number) and cut the rest. Then watch it again. I think this is the way to go. Avoid really long videos with no talking and boring scenery, or shit-talking, ... I'm new to motovlogging, but I've done quite a lot of video-editing, and I think this is the way to create interesting and entertaining videos that people may like to watch. Hope I helped a bit! Edit safe! ;)

Vs!

PS: Already posted my first motovlog, maybe it can give you some ideas. It's 8min, but I had like 90min of footage.

Yes, as I've learned, editing takes quite some time. I'm hoping to get it uploaded to YT before I head out since I'll be out of pocket for a few days. I had about 23 minutes of footage and edited that down to about 12 or so. Then decided it got too choppy cutting out silliness so now it's around 9 minutes. I'm going to keep it unlisted until others here look at it. Let y'all know when it's posted.

NOW EVERYONE GET OFF THE INTERNET SO MY VIDEO CAN LOAD UBER FAST!

Even the more popular motovloggers took time to be at ease with it. Guess vlogs sound best when people are comfortable with doing it and dont care what other people think and dont take themselves too serious. And then you just have to be good at it :p Sounds simple... ehem...

Don't stress mate, My first vids was 20 mins too and had to split it! You get better at getting to the point and staying on topic as time goes by, I tend to ramble and has taken some effort to stop it and stay on topic, As with editing it down, When I first started it was very hard to chop parts out and shorten a video considerable but now its easy!

Good Luck and Look forward to seeing it!

Just do it and the learn to edit out the repeated bits, umms and ahhs, "dead air" etc. What you are happy watching may be boring for others unless it has something going on - scenery, good chat etc. speaking from experience here, my early vlogs bore me to tears now and I thought they were cool at the time, lol, but i learned that, even though I enjoyed watching myself ride some nice roads, I needed to pick out the best bits and dump the rest.
A good idea is to edit it, leave it alone for a day or 2 and try to watch with fresh eyes and imagine you are someone else watching, then ask yourself is it keeping your attention.
As a rule, 10 minutes or over will drastically cut down views. There are literally 10's of thousands of motovloggers now, many of us are subbed to several hundred and if we see vids more than 7-8 minutes long we won't watch unless it's someone we already know and love :)
