Question about posting videos in the Members Vlog section (I'm likely just an idiot)

I have a question which may or may not be stupid, but I'm going to ask it anyway.

When posting videos in the Vlog section of the forum here, the instructions say to embed the video. As far as I know that means you click the embed button from Youtube, copy the HTML code, and paste it into the post.

However, everytime I do that the post has extra text characters displayed in it around the video. It looks to me like much of the HTML is ignored and only the direct link to the YT vid is actually needed to show a video in the post.

Am I simply embedding videos wrong? Are the forum instructions out of date, is the direct link all that is required?

Thanks!

Haha, YouTube vids you can just put the URL in, no need to use the embed feature. I think Dan wrote the rules before the forum was upgraded some moons ago. No such thing as a silly question mate! :) (gonna move this to forum feedback btw)
