Quality Vs Quantity

I have to admit that some of my favorite motovloggers put out weekly videos but they gathered their videos in a way so that they're always a week ahead. Which seems fairly smart because they could always piece together another video if they have to stop vlogging for a while..I have a separate hard drive full of my videos and I haven't even released any to my youtube yet becuase I don't feel as if they are truly done. Go at your own pace and put out videos that you can be proud of.

also a great idea. just in case you have a period of time where you cant film, its nice to have some older material you can use to fill some gaps so it doesn't look like you fell off the map
 
I just started vloging on Friday last week so far I have 3 videos out and a 4th to come tonight (hopefuly).

I use my bike every day for work and city riding with the wife so I see a lot of funny/stupid stuff, all of this stuff is going in to my Derby Motorbike Encounters show.

As well as this show I’m running a vlog. For this I just go out for a 2-3hour ride and just chat to myself like a crazy person, I do however put a cheat sheet in my tank bag to “try” and keep me on topic.


My master plan is to use my DME show to be filler with no commentary that I release as and when I stack up enough clips.

As for my Vlog I will probs try and get on up every 2 weeksish or so as my bike is my life.

Saying that the wife currently mad at me for disappearing all the time at the moment so I might need to taper off how often I pop out J
 
Definitely quality I have enough footage saved up to put out new videos for like bi-daily for 3 months. But of course the content would suffer because people would be hearing from me to often. Think of it as TV you have to wait a whole week to see a show, with the occasional sneek preview.

i think he was doing it for legal reasons. like if he was driving dangerously.
 
Balance between both quality and quantity are essential to a new channel. After you've established a following, I feel that quality is more important. Your viewers would probably rather see 1 quality video per week rather than 3 or 4 not so great ones.

I release as the need arises. No one is tuning into my channel or really anyone channels waiting for a video like a SITCOM. That's my 2 cents

Yep, it's one of the best things about "on demand" services like YouTube as I can just binge when I want.

People should get out of the ancient ideas of broadcast TV.
 
The thing that sucks about "banking" content, is that if you talk about any current event, it ends up being horribly out dated by the time the video gets uploaded.
 
If I vlogged about something current I'd put it up pretty quickly and hold back something more general.

I think Articpride and Realrider hit on the point I was trying to make. I guess there is a tipping point for some vlogger when their channel takes on a life of its own.

Quality is no question an important factor and to all of your points it's better to put out good content then a lot of crap. However, I think some channels become like a weekly show that people want to watch. There are a few channel that I look forward to seeing every week.

I guess it's a moot point for me because I'm no where near that level. I guess I was wondering if I should get in that habit and whether a weekly release is something that will draw more subs. If I see an awesome video on a channel that only has 2-3 vids I may not sub because it could be a one off. If I see a channel with a bunch of good and some great vids I may sub to see a weekly "show".

I think what ever works for you personally, works. We are all different with different life/riding schedules. Ill put up a video whenever I feel like it, dont really care if someone will watch or like it. Its not a job, im not getting paid for it. If people are interested in what I have to say, theyll sub, theyll watch and then tell me what they want from me but that will come when it comes.
I enjoy making videos and recording whatever rumbles/encounters etc that I have. If I stop enjoying it, ill stop. Dont let anyone dictate what you do with a hobby like that... You should simply enjoy doing it to become better at it.
Well, thats my 5 cents on the matter.

why not try to find a happy medium and have quality with a decent amount of quantity? idk thats how id see it maybe lol
 
It really depends on what you want to put out for the viewers, some record in advance, save up footage and so that they have plenty to produce for weeks, or some just record only when they feel like it, just for that moment, and not make content in advance.

Each has it's own merits, some people can tell if you have been scheduling content in advance, and if you are the type that makes on the spot stuff and post.

For myself personally (at the moment) I just record only when I have something or feel like it, get it edited and posted up immediately once done. I don't keep / store in advance / future posting.

Sometimes (especially on long travel ride), I tend to just make a single long @$$ video instead of splitting it up into separate videos parts, resulting in over 2 hours long video(s). So far there are people that commented that they actually watched the entire thing. I'm amazed. LoL.
 
Bit of a giveaway when you post in the height of summer, but there's no leaves on the trees in your vid :)
 
I've had to slow down for some corners round here, can't see through them now the hedge has grown :)
