Quality Vs Quantity

Hey everyone,

Just wondering your thoughts on which you think is more important. Is it better to release a random video here and there with great content or release a video on a set schedule with ok content.

I set out to release a video every Friday, because I was told that one of the things that makes a good channel is a regular video release schedule. However, it's difficult to put out a video every week that has interesting content. Is this something that comes with time or is it just the nature of the work.

The one thing I don't want to do is manufacture or exaggerate a situation so that I can film something entertaining. I see that from time to time and it is annoying.

Quality, no question at all.

One stunning video every 2 months is far better than weekly tripe.

I also don't get why motovloggers try to keep to strict schedules. No one cares when you release a video, if they're subscribed they'll get around to watching it as they work their way through the sub box, and no one at all will notice if you're a few days late or miss a week.

I think you're right. It made sense to keep to a schedule for me. At least as a way to keep me motivated and working on it, but I just don't want to put out trash.

Keeping to a schedule did help me some what. I need the practice, so the trash videos will become better:) I'm not too impressed with the videos I put out so far, but I think they did give me a bunch of experience in editing that will help a lot in the future.

No they're not. Besides, It's not your fault the videos suck. It's because you're from a crappy socialist country:) Just kidding bud.

What sucks and what is great is subjective just like all art. Your videos seem fine to me. At least you're not screaming at a car that pulls out in front of you and giving them the finger. Then putting "almost died today" in the title to get views.

Jeez, I hate that type of vlog.

I'm still struggling with the quality aspect myself, I can't do "normal" vlogs as I'm distracted by every corner and shiny thing I see so I try to compensate with the scenery :p

Tell me about it. My friends tells me to talk about more serious stuff since thats all we talk about and I can't. I try to explain how hard it is to think and talk about a subject while riding a bike and watching out for other drivers, but they don't get it. All I can handle right now it dumb jokes and nice scenery. Their lucky I don't do fart jokes:)

I may have made a lot of awesome farmer jokes in a future episode where I'm getting chased by cows.

I think I'm about to lose all of my fans (all 2 of them)!

If you ride daily and record every time you ride, a little bit, you could probably stream together a clip for the weekly schedule (if you have one), as for editing, I think as long as your audio commentary / narration / story-telling / lecture is clear, and your video is fine (not super blurry / dark /etc), viewers are contented to watch. That's what my conclusion is based on my little experience anyway.

Thanks for the input SighBored. I actually couldn't sleep last night at tried to get some footage for my video today, but no luck. I guess I'll take a ride to a state park.

I definitely think quality over quantity. Since people will just be using their subscription feed, the only reason for a schedule is to suit yourself.
If you throw a video out whenever, people will stop watching and possibly unsubscribe.

I've seen mention of people thinking about a topic they want to talk about, and sticking cliff notes onto the tank.
If you do that, it's also possible to spread the topic out over a number of rides and edit them into a single video later, cutting out the dead space or irrelevant bits.

I always try to shoot for one video a week. If it doesn't happen it doesn't happen. You was quality, not quantity. It is rare to be able to do both especially if you have a family and a full time job.

YouTube is supposed to be a hobby, if I turn it into a chore it becomes like a shitty job. I had those in the past, and there is no way I will turn my hobby into one.

schedules become important with high subscriber base, your YT channel becomes like a TV channel, people begin to expect new content....
Really? Looking at some of the biggest vloggers their releases seem to be "when it's ready". It only seems to be the small vloggers (less than 100k subs) that follow a schedule out of my subscriptions.

I'd say the 100k+ people either have a schedule or consistent content C2W is on a schedule ++AB is more consistent content. I also believe a lot has to do with free time, some have plenty, some have little...

Look at the main vloggers where they schedule mon/wed/fri millions of subs. They definitely expect a schedule.

Walterific is a good example - he just hit 100k subs and he has a very set routine. He has the advantage of being single, no dependants and taking youtube full time.

The trick is keeping the videos small but recording all the time I guess.

Good tip about the post-its captf. I'll give that a try. Might be problem on the highway, but hopefully they will stay on the tank:)

Good point TheDutchTexan. For my personally I think a schedule helps sometimes, because I get so lazy that I don't feel like riding much less editing. It almost like at times I have to force myself to have fun:)

I think Articpride and Realrider hit on the point I was trying to make. I guess there is a tipping point for some vlogger when their channel takes on a life of its own.

Quality is no question an important factor and to all of your points it's better to put out good content then a lot of crap. However, I think some channels become like a weekly show that people want to watch. There are a few channel that I look forward to seeing every week.

I guess it's a moot point for me because I'm no where near that level. I guess I was wondering if I should get in that habit and whether a weekly release is something that will draw more subs. If I see an awesome video on a channel that only has 2-3 vids I may not sub because it could be a one off. If I see a channel with a bunch of good and some great vids I may sub to see a weekly "show".

Sorry for the long reply. I'm just trying to explain myself more clearly:) Thanks for the reply guys. All good stuff.
