Pro’s & Con’s of Left Or Right Helmet Camera Mount

Personally I would prefer chin mount but I have an RJay Carbon Fibre flip helmet. I chose the right side for recording oncoming traffic. I may change my preference when I upgrade helmets.

I have mounted mine all over, left, right, top chin etc.

Drift shaped ones need to be on the side, top feels wrong.
I prefer mine on my left, (Sameside i drive. Its better angled towards the oncoming traffic.

I've had mine on the left and right. Pretty much what others said as far as which side of the road you get in view. One thing i noticed is when I had it on the right, it was more toward the center of the right side of my head. My helmet took up more of the screen and range of view was more limited if I turned my head to look at something, but the camera stayed pretty steady overall, so less jiggling around. Now I have it more toward my chin and forward. There is less helmet in the picture and I can see further toward the opposite side when I turn my head, but the camera is not as steady since it moves a greater distance when I turn my head to check mirrors or look at something next to me.

You can use the arms to bring it to the front, my Bell Carbon is pointy on the front so I had to do this to chin mount. PS Sugru is your friend to hold the mounting plate on.

I put mine on the right. When I first started carvlogging my camera was on the right, so I figured I'd use the same side. I sometimes talk with my hands, and that won't show up as well on a bike due to the hand that can be used for talking without letting go of the throttle being on the other side.

I want it on the side of the opposing traffic direction, simply because many things can happen on that lane :D and you would want your camera on the correct side when that happens. I've also heard Hunter Honda regret his mounting on the other side, for exactly the reason I stated

Pro’s & Con’s of Left Or Right Helmet Camera Mount

Open to recommendations on which side to mount a action camera on a helmet for my country that drives on the left-hand side of the road (ie UK, Aust, NZ and 10% of the world) and what is different to countries that drive right-hand side of the road (ie USA and 90% of the world)?

LEFT
- when overtaking, better view of “cager” (ie hot driver / face expressions of driver)

RIGHT
- when being overtaken by irate “cager” (ie road rage )

Please add your thoughts!
I keep it on the left just because I can turn it on and still have my right hand on the throttle.

Wind drag on the side mounted camera like GoPro, can't ride fast comfortably.
Never had a GoPro, but I've topped my bike out with the AS-15 on the left side and couldn't even tell it was there. I see what you mean with the GoPro being square and all. Gonna have to check the new ones out to see how small they really are.

I have a contour 2+ and have it mounted on the right side of my helmet. No issues with wiring as it's symmetrical. My reasoning for it is so I can have an intercom on the left side with out worries and I can see more of the traffic in front of me as well what is coming at me in the other lain (in australia). I will admit I don't get a lot from the left on film past my helmet but that is what a second camera if for.
