Preventing Handlebar Misalignment

So my recent crash introduced a slight misalignment in the handlebar and forks. Now the wheels are biased slightly left when the bars are held straight because I fell on my right.

This is costing me S$150 to fix and i'd like to prevent this in the future as it is the most costly kind of repair I've faced so far.

The previous times I have fallen and actually needed the help of a workshop has always had to do with misaligned bars.

Any of you has any ideas if there are any accessories out there that will prevent the handlebars from touching the ground in the case of a low speed lowsides?
 
The drz400 sm should have rubber in the bar mounts attached to the triple tree. Just take out the nuts on the bottom of the triple tree pull out the bars and put it back in and it should straighten up. It's very simple. I used to have to do it on my dirt bike all the time.
 
I already sent it in a couple hours ago. So whatever, i'll let them fix it and ill just pay for it.

Anyway, I'm thinking of just plugging in those bar end/lever guards, and hopefully those will snap off in place of shocking the handlebar and bending it and rocking the fork alignment.

Too bad they don't have sliders for handlebars.
 
They won't snap off. The rubber in the bar mounts is designed to take all the shock. If it happens again just take the bars out and put them back in. That's the only thing that gets messed up. The rubber gets moved. You can't let it set all crooked or it will mess up the rubber mount. I used to fuck up my handlebars pretty bad on my dirt bike. I would just take them out of the triple trees and put it back in and it would be good to go.
 
What bike is it? Also most of my renthal bars I've had have alignment grooves to make that side easier. But depending on your bike/ how much you crash I might have an idea!
 
protaper or renthal's are the best handle bars on the market in my oppion i had both retnthals and protapers in my 3 major wrecks and they held up even though i slammed the bike hard on the handle bars
 
Your other option is learn how to realign them yourself. Its actually quite easy.

Jump on youtube there are a couple of good vids about it.
 
Lol there is no need for a tq wrench for handlebars just tighten them till they feel tight. You can order better rubber bushings for the sm models.
 
Still need to get some tools anyway D: I don't even have a bolt wrench. Just the normal spanner types.
 
It's gonna be tough getting thoes under the triple tree. The best option is a wrench I think the bottom is a 17 or so. That's a guess from when I had my dirt bike and the tops should be a 10. Just undo the top enough that the bars will move then undo the bottom all the way and pull out the bars from the triple tree then put that back in and tighten and it should be stright. It's super simple.
 
Yeah, it's not a huge deal. I had a huge misalignment in my forks when I got the bike due to the big hit they took. I just loosened everything connected to the forks and held the wheel between my legs and twisted the bars to realign. You need a good eye to align it, but mechanically it's not a big deal.

And I know on mine you can't really prevent it. If you torque the tree too tightly you can damage the forks. So you settle with the chance of misalignment with a big hit.

Haha, a good eye. I might need to figure out how to undo the triple and put it back first. Wish I had a garage so I didn't have to work under a thunderstorm or blazing sun.
