Poker Runs

Do any of you riders do poker runs? I did my first yesterday. It wasn't much different than any other ride except for the timeline, stops and charity involved. One Broken Biker is a charity in Alberta Canada that financially assists riders that are involved in an accident. Our group

I have taken part of a few. Never hosted one. Even have a videos on my channel of at least two. Not so sure about the charity bit with those though. They were both hosted by local Hells Angels. But the routes are always really good.

I only ever joined the mega convoy organized by the local Kawasaki distributer here during the MotoGP race because it was huge and they blocked off the roads to let us go through, so that was cool.

But other than that, I avoid such things as I feel it's just too many people and too much time wasting.

I had to Google poker run as I literally had no idea what you guys were talking about, I initially thought you meant like ride to a casino to gamble or something. LOL.

Ditto! I had absolutely no idea either. Clearly not as common over here in the UK.

Done some charity runs in the past. There's a lot of Christmas toy runs over here, are they a thing elsewhere? Basically, all the bikers dress as Santa, cover their bikes in decorations, rock up with kids toys, then all go for a massive ride out to children's hospitals and hospices and hand out the toys to the poor kids who can't be home for Xmas.

Another guy that had to google poker run right here! haha

Never heard of them and I guess even more rare in Ireland as well! Something I'd definitely consider, sounds fun!

I like to do poker rides every once in a while as long as they are charity rides and they supply the route ahead of time as I prefer not to ride with a large group, or anyone at all most of the time. There was a good one in my home town for a while that was in a Toy Run in November for the holidays, but it hasn't been going on the past few years because the bar that put it on sold to someone else and the new owner didn't keep it going. Be nice if another venue int he area would pick it up, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've done a few poker runs in the past but honestly I don't enjoy them much. Inevitably I find stuff along the way I'd love to stop at or deviate to explore but you can't because it's a preplanned route on a time table. I prefer unstructured rides I guess!

Usually here the time gaps are made well enough you could cover each stint several times, while both points are still open. Just poor planning on the ones you attended then, I guess.
