To be able to ride a bike in the UK you must do 4 tests in all!
The first is a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) Which is about £100 and involves riding in a paddock/closing car park etc on a 50cc scooter (if your 16) or a 125cc geared bike if your 17+. Once you have passed this (which is hard to fail tbh) you can then ride a 50cc (if your 16) or a 125cc (if your 17+) on the road but you must keep your L plates on the bike
If you are going on to do your full licence then you next need to do your theory test which is 50 set multiple choice questions and a hazard perception test (look them up on Youtube).
Then you have the 2 practical tests you have to take the first is;
Module 1
A number of set exercises which are the following:
Manually handling the bike (pushing it around)
Slalom
Figure of 8
2 x Circuit rides
Cornering
Controlled Stop
Emergency Stop
U Turn
Hazard Avoidance
Slow Ride (To Simulate slow riding in traffic)
Then you move onto your Module 2 which is a 30-40 minute road ride with an examiner following you and marks you on various things
All of the above can be done at different levels depending on your age. Its to stop a 17 your old passing his full test and going out and buying a Busa or a B-King and killing himself!
