They might help you out if you help them out. AKA: Have a significant subscriber base. There are however many out there that are just partnered trough YouTube, and it works fine for them.

If you are small they promise you the world, but give little in return. They will take a piece of your pie though... Needless to say, I am not partnered with a MCN, and probably won't.

I guess it really depends on what network you join. Some networks (like the ones I've heard about) are just trying to make a profit out of your channel and some are interested in a true partnership. In the end, what you shouldn't forget is, that they are companies and their whole purpose is to make a profit and that they'll use your channel to increase their revenues.
