tbh is saw the pic of the 4 lane taxis and u can see themarker on the road, also u can see that they are using that red tar "where all the taxis are parked" not quite sure you are right that at that exact spot its a 4 lane road for all motorist to use

seen those taxi stand thingies in front of a lot of stations.

but anyway, i agree that taxis have their own set of rules and that they drive like crazy. if i ever get run over it was probably a taxi xD.
they change ane when and where they want, they stop wherever they want (including in the middle of left/right turns at traffic lights) infront of busses, on pedestrian crossings (while pedestrians have green)

about the gaijin card (alien registration card) I love it. don t have to bring my passport anywhere and i hope foreigners one day have to have something like that in my country :P

small story..

police like to stop foreigners and practice a little english, especially in roppongi in tokyo. its the one place where i heard that if you want to work as a police officer there, you have to be able to speak some english. i was stopped once at around 5 am. and they asked me what i was doing there. so i just showed them my card and said nothing. one of them asked me the same question again,(kinda grumpy i didn t answer) till the other guy told him "doitsu" which means german xD and they let me go.

what you said about you having to speak japanese since the cops clearly didn t speak any engish
Never EVER speak japanese to cops. just smile, bow, "i'm sorry" and they wil let you go 99% of the time. do not show any anger but only regret (if its regret that u did what u did or that they caught you doing it, i ll leave up to you xD)

was stopped by the cops on my way to work.

there was a 3 lane street crossing under a bridge
i was in the left lane, going straight and left, the middle lane went straight and the right went right and straight.

i wanted to go straight but someone infront of my wanted to turn left and there were pedestrians crossing, so he held up about 5 cars and a bunch of scooters. I am not used to filtering, and as far as i know it is not legal, but just tolerated. and i couldn t understand why no one was moving to the middle lane (middle and the right one were completely empty).

so i switched lanes and then i see that there are 2 police pars and a bike under the bridge hiding on the left( traffic was blocking the view) and 1 of them steps kinda onto my lane with a whistle xD

so i stop, take my helmet off and pull out my license right away. "SHE" was actually a cute little 20 something and was trying her best to reprimand me. but i just said i'm sorry i cannot understand what you are saying(about 50 times) while giving her my best smile that would make butter in you fridge melt :P

at the end she just said YOU CANNOT CHANGE LANE! but by the time she was smiling herself and just returned my license.

since i pass that point on my regular commute i know now that they are standing there pretty much every second day.

That photo was just an example of taxis stopped. Not meant to show a particular road. As you should know, this happens in front of most stations in the cities.

As for whether to speak Japanese or not to the police or how much aggression/indignation depends on the situation and also your Japanese ability. If you aren't very fluent, then I agree, usually better to smile and take shit like a bitch.

yes my Japanese is pretty bad xD but they talk to people very differently depending on their Japanese ability. and funny enough that includes Japanese as well

i subbed to you already the other night you friggin dill!!! ... keep up!!... there will be a test later!!
I know that you've share the love Janxie. My comment about still trying was to keep putting shit on our colleague Mr Cods.

As for the test, can you send me through a cheat sheet first?
