Numb Bum

So, what do you use or what have you done?

- Suffered through it for so many years your backside is rock hard and no longer feels it?
- Bought an upgraded seat?
- Modded your seat yourself or arranged for a personal one to be built?
- Changed something else on the bike to reduce vibration?
- Bought a cushion?
- Something else?

What has worked for you?

Lean off more round the corners and you won't get a numb arse.

Too old for that sporty stuff, and not got the right bike. Couple hundred miles per day for two weeks coming up around Ireland, but getting there will be 400 miles on first day mainly motorway. Not much opportunity to lean.

Do squats and tone that arse up. Strong arse = no pain

Not convinced that is evidence-based, lol

It makes perfect sense though, you need to build your arses endurance, give it a good pounding every day and it'll become stronger. ;)

I have no ass, best advice I can give you is to wear padded bike shorts. It's stupid I know but I use them when I'm racing, or just ridding around on long backroads, they help alot.

or go eat a sandwich.

I find a bottle of man up pills work pretty good fella.

I really don't want to get into talking about your backside but if it the top of your legs or your arse cheek?

if it's your legs, it could be nerves. If it's dead arse, shit seat or need to tweak body position? Can't be your scooter other bike?

I say upgrade your seat or buy a seat pad. I don't really have that issue but I do own a gel seat pad that just sits on top of the seat. My wife uses it on long rides because my passenger seat is lacking on cushion.

Seat position? If I do a long run I need to sit a tad further back in the seat. Moving position or taking the load off by standing on the pegs a bit can help.

I've been moving round quite a lot, but this only really came up the other day after doing motorway riding at 70mph, and the vibrations through the seat and the footpegs became really noticeable. I have a seat pad that I bought a long while ago but not convinced by it; have seen some videos with people using sheepskin on trips from Hull, UK to Spain and spoke to a guy who used one the other day. Both swear by them. For £15, worth a try.

Could the wheels be out of balance or is it engine vibrations? Might be worth mentioning at the service.

Of the three bikes I've owned each one sucks...sportbike seats all do. After a few months my ass just gets used to the seat. If I don't ride for a while though it's back to square one. It's like a bicycle seat, all hurt until your body gets tolerant to it from frequent use.

Pretty sure the wheels aren't out of balance, as I'd feel a speed wobble and it's solid as a rock. Just general vibration from the ride I think, but will mention it at 600mile service

I had an old touring BMW with a custom made Corbin seat- that was amazing. I'd get tired before I got sore. I wish I could afford on for my current bike. On my KLR650 I have a sheep's skin pad. It was good for the first 10,000 miles, but lost most of its cushion. I never bothered to take care of it, so it's seen the elements. On my current BMW I have the stock seat, but I'm looking for a seat pad. I'm thinking the Air Hawk, but I'm having a tough time justifying $150+!

For £15 for some sheepskin to last 10,000 miles, that sounds like a deal!

The vibrations sound more like a balance issue either with wheels or tires. Could only be a minor issue but at the higher speeds like you mentioned a little unbalance can become a big vibration.
