Are there any riders from Northern Rivers NSW area? Keen to find riders to head out with and even do a collaboration with!

Just to elaborate, the region is Lismore, Casino, Ballina, Byron Bay, Evans Head, Lennox Head - all NSW Australia.

I'm on the Gold Coast which is close enough in my book, & from watching your videos you are a real fan of corners & not not so much of straight roads, I know a lot of mountain / twisty roads around the Gold Coast Hinterland (including Northern NSW down to Nimbin)

Yep. Thats close. Havnt ventured that way yet. Would love some recommendations to try that way.

If you want to meet up, I have some options for a quick one day venture below, if you ride to the BP, then I leave at Casino (unless you have some roads to show me down there) the travel time for both us should be fair..

- Not recommended (misses Tambourine Mountain & a really nice lookout) https://goo.gl/maps/UNBhcfCjvx12
- The way Google Maps takes you on this route https://goo.gl/maps/dN4YrkUTq4E2
- My Recommended Route for the extra 30mins it's worth it https://goo.gl/maps/s5mXDQHdhST2

That's a pretty good route. Ill hit you up when I can look at a day ride and we can organise something. Cheers!

Captain Cranky and myself should join you both on this. We know just about every road there is to know worth riding between the Gold Coast and Lismore.

Sounds good!, I've got to get some new tyres, my stock ones have one 11,000k mainly touring so they are a wee bit squared.

Do you have any recommendation on this route? https://goo.gl/maps/3W2r2qnnf4T2 (changed the dest to Lismore)

I'm trying to keep it around the 4 hour mark so jthomas doesn't have to get up too early to ride to Nerang I'm thinking around a 10am meet at the BP get to Lismore around 3pm (with stops) and we get back to GC before it get's dark, and hopefully this become a regular affair and we can do longer / shorter rides as time goes on.

I like that route, have done it once complete and parts of it many times. Some of Lions road is quite tricky and a part of the road from Kyogle to Cawongla (the last 3 Kms of that stretch) has a terrible surface, but with that knowledge, and ridden appropriately, it's worth it for the rest of the route which has great roads and scenery. The alternative possibility, as part of this route is to do the Mt Lindesay Twisties, between Rathdowney and Woodenbong, and then ride the Summerland way to Kyogle.

I actually don't mind early starts - especially for long rides that take in part of QLD :)
I'll wake jthomas with a rev bomb :p

Sounds good! Im out out of action for the next couple of weekends but up for it the weekend after. Otherwise Im free every second weekend from then.

I agree with everything that the misunderstood genius Captain Cranky says. :D

I'd maybe also exchange Mt Tamborine for Beechmont from Nerang.

There is also an alternative route from Beaudesert through to the northern end of Lions Road via Kerry that is good. More interesting than the main highway.

To miss that bumpy part of the Kyogle Road, there is always Bentley Road to Lismore as well which is not bad.

I do remember the Loins road being a bit sketchy.. Are there many good lookouts on those alt routes? the main reason I put Mt Tambourine was for Rotary Lookout & while we were there to go to the lookout at the top of the mountain, and The only reason for Beaudesert / Lions road was to go to the Border loop lookout, I'm easy either way ,jthomas if you'd rather better roads or some real nice lookouts (depending on lookouts on alt route) show you some of the amazing scenery that the Hinterland has to offer.

I'm the type of guy who would ride 200k on a straight road just for the view at the end lol so I'm a bit biased towards lookouts xD

Lookouts are always cool. I' a fan also. Beechmont has some of the best views around I reckon. Multiple lookouts. But Tambo is good for that too.
Not so many lookouts going the Mt Lindesay Hwy twisties instead of Lions Road.

I was intending to head out for a ride this weekend, but plans have come to head inland for a funeral tomorrow. Depending on what happens over the next couple of days I may still get out, would be good to do the loop. I'll keep you posted. So long as I get reception on the phone lol.

All good, I ended up doing it yesterday it was great weather and the Loins Road wasn't as bad as I remembered, took about 6 hours all in with stops and going down random roads that turned into gravel :(
