Ninja 300 Stock Chain Rust?

I've noticed some light rust on my chain and rear sprocket for a 2015 Ninja EX300 and was wondering if this is something common for the stock chain.
Now I am the second owner, first guy had 1k miles on it and I purchased it from the dealership apparently as "new" according to the paperwork lol

Now i'm at 2k miles after 2 weeks daily use and have yet to clean/lube the chain. Getting some products in Monday to finally do this and hoping it helps some.

Also what chain is recommended and is it an easy enough install for someone who does typical home mechanic work on vehicles and such. (This is my first cycle but I'm mechanically inclined for sure).

Pictures? Chain can have rust spots if not lubed or water is left on the chain after washing the bike. Tiny rust spots is not a big problem, just make sure it's properly lubed and no kinks.

Unfortunatley, You've put 1,000 miles on it without properly caring for it. Rust will happen. Make sure that the chain lube you get is appropriate to the type of chain (O-ring vs. regular). Rule of thumb, lube the chain weekly or every 300 miles, whichever comes first. Different people may have differing views on the interval, I've even heard some people say to lube the chain every time you top off the gas. Whatever you choose, make it a regular routine, and lube the chain when it is still warm.

2000 mile chain just get some kerro stuff brush and rub that rust right off. There will be nothing wrong with the chain. Get your chosen lube and cover it.

As for intervals. As I have said before I do mine when I remember.

Thanks everyone, will post photos tomorrow after work. I did wash the bike a few days prior to noticing the rust so that is probably the reason. Hoping the cleaning brush and products help remove it and I can save the chain which seems to be stable in terms of tension and sideways movement.

My car just got sent to the shop for transmission issues, and sadly I'm out of funding to repair it right now if it's over $200 which is possible.

I lube my chain every friday or saturday. I commute with it daily, about 100km round trip

My chain was rusted after sitting for a few days during monsoon season, but a wire brush and some kerosene did wonders!

standard brush and chain cleaner seems to have taken care of things really quick, it was a light layer of rust but yeah, came right off.

Best cleaning job I could do without a rear stand but decent enough for now.

I have the same experience on my 2016 CB500X, it happen after I use it all day for about a week where the weather almost raining hard every day.
So I just try to clean it with a chain cleaner, scrub it with a chain brush and lube it with an o-ring safe lubricants.

About the replacement chain, have you tried RK Takasago chain? I used it on my last bike (Yamaha MT-25) and it works perfect, I never have to adjust my chain slacks for almost 2 years, just regular maintenance.
