My Crash Video & "The Aftermath"
Hey, dudes and dudettes!

Some of you may have already stumbled across the crash video I posted earlier this month. Well, I've finally gotten around to posting the aftermath video. For your convenience, I'll post links to both. Enjoy!

Re: My Crash Video & "The Aftermath"

Looks like a bad case of Target Fixation. Glad to see you had some gear on and the super mario insert was a nice touch

Re: My Crash Video & "The Aftermath"

The only problems I've ever had have come from following other riders who are faster and more experienced than me. It's a painful lesson to learn but glad to see you're ok!

Re: My Crash Video & "The Aftermath"

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

This was my first time canyon riding, but the second run of the day. The first run was down Montezuma (which I'll post eventually), and no one was in front of me. I felt really comfortable riding at my own pace. Next time I'll see about either riding in front or waaaay far behind, lol!

I've found that group riding is like an afternoon on the golf course for me. I don't like getting stuck behind a slow group, but on the other hand, I feel like I need to rush my game as to not hold anyone else up - which is why I spend most of my time on the driving range. :P

Re: My Crash Video & "The Aftermath"

Great to see you post your view on the cause of the accident. That should help someone understand what you did wrong and hopefully help them (me included!) not do the same thing.

Thanks for this.

Cheers,
Yarek

Re: My Crash Video & "The Aftermath"

That was odd. Nice touch with the Mario sounds effects.

Looks to me like the oncoming traffic blipped you and you went too wide - that's just how I read it. That was a long sweeping left-hander. You rode plenty before the impact so not sure how you managed that. Still... your ok and live to tell the tale. Lesson learned my friend. We've all made mistakes. Just make sure you learn from it. Not too much damage to the bike either.

One thing I don't understand though

what's with the knee pads? Just buy some leather dude. Looks better and works a damned site better than they do, even though they saved you this time... you can buy a second-hand pair of two pieces from Fleabay for the same price you will have paid for those pads.

Re: My Crash Video & "The Aftermath"

Glad to see you were ok, might get some crash bungs on my bike after seeing this

Yes, I agree; they do look terrible, lol. But bear in mind the sole purpose of my getting a bike in the first place (only a year ago) was for commuting around town through our terrible LA traffic. The only time I even wear the knee guards is when I (rarely) hit the freeways. Full leathers for commuting is a bit overkill, no?

That said, now that I've finally had a taste of canyon riding, I've been looking to invest in a nice pair of leathers and boots for next time. I hadn't thought of checking eBay though. Thanks for the tip! :D

I highly recommend you do! A lot of people get the Shogun brand, but they're not as sturdy as my PSR sliders. I've seen the Shoguns bend on impact. :(

Re: My Crash Video & "The Aftermath"

I'm assuming thats a US thing for make of sliders?

Get on the web and check out R&G http://www.rg-racing.com/ They are UK based but if they won't ship, drop me a PM and I'll sort it out. Just cover postage and I'll send you over whatever you want. They are pretty good and sell everything from tail tidys to engine case protectors and crash bungs.

I'm no expert on these things but they seem to be the brand of choice for these things.
