I never got the one it is now, I am still on the blackish one that everyone seemed to like :P (only on this laptop. I don't know why)

Anybody else switch to the new channel format? I was bored at like 2 in the morning and decided to give it a go. The banner design was a pain in the ass in that they won't let you upload smaller than TV size. So you've got this massive canvas in photoshop, but you're working on like . . . 20% of it? Maybe some people will use the whole thing, but I focused on the bit that is viewable to everyone and extended the art to what you'd see on a desktop.

Anyhow. I don't hate it. I don't love it, but I don't hate it. It's whatever, lol. :roll:
 
I found it a pain to do the banner, too. And I'm not creative enough to make one in Photoshop :P

I threw together a quick 30 second advert, too. I like the video, its basic, and to the point, but I seriously doubt it'll get me many more subscribers.
 
I agree, the new banner was a bit of a pain to do. And I am skeptical that my trailer will gain any more subs. I tried to make a banner that would look good on all screen sizes but I had bits half on and half off on my laptop screen.In the I end just made one that should look ok on everyone's screen.
 
I just upgraded after I saw this thread and that a few of you have given it a shot. I'm just getting into the groove with all of this Youtube stuff, and figured I would grab the new layout so I could just be used to this one and not have to change whenever they officially roll it out as mandatory. So far I got a plain banner up, but need to get a trailer cooking asap. i just finally started to capture some more video footage, so hopefully can mix one together soon.
 
Hmmm, to change or not. More work for me to do!

Guess I will have to eventually but might wait until after I have returned from a big trip away on the bike.

Any major issues with the new design so far?
 
I thought I was fairly okay with using photoshop, but this became a pain in the backside to do. Okay, I was still a little bit dopey on morphine (had surgery yesterday) but still.

I downloaded their template with the surfer, which they don't provide in the right dimensions, but didn't realise that until after I'd created the whole thing and tried to upload it. So I had to re-scale everything, which, obviously, threw all of the important banner sizes out of whack.

If I had had my wits about me, here's the first steps I would've taken, hopefully this will help someone;

Download their template
Resize it to 2120 X 1192
Lower the opacity so that you can see the restricted areas.
Double click this layer in the layers panel so that you can keep moving the layer on top of your work.
Keep your main logos and design within the red centre area, anything in the other boxes will get covered with your YouTube avatar, or links.
Anythng outside of the boxes is for tv users, but screw those yuppies (i left mine blank)
Save your work as a .psd file as well as your .jpeg in case you need to make changes.

You do need to design an image for the entire area!!! As it will all be used depending on the device your channel is viewed on.
 
fscking youtube... clicked the "click here to start" or whatever figuring it would let me know what I was getting into before I changed... then it's like "everything has been switched over.... permanently.. HAHAHAHA" oh well... made a quick and dirty (real quick) banner.. will have to figure out something else later.
 
That's Google for you. I had the same happen to me with my YT account that caused me to have to change my name and when I tried to remove Google + I lost my account and all videos :(
Suppose I'll have to look at making a banner soon, but until then...FIGHT THE POWER!
 
Thanks for all the advice and tips here guys. I am sure that there will be many of us who will have this thread open while making the changes as a reference and will find the tips really useful. :D

I think I will attempt to change mine later as I have a big road trip planned which I need to organise first and I am in the midst of changing helmet cameras at the moment which is taking more time than I thought! :o
 
I really don't like it... i have always doe my Graphics and i am proud to say that i am fairly good at it, but this takes away all creativity and design that any graphic artist can do... it's basically a square canvas with no detailing on it at all, i switched it back within 5 minutes :/
As a youtube partner i like my channel having a banner, was the best thing about partnership in my opinion, and they have taken this away from us... If anyone wants to switch back and doesn't know, go to http://www.youtube.com/onechannel scroll to the bottom and press the blue button (Y)

have you ever watched youtube on a phone or tablet? even if you were a partner your graphic wasn't there but now it doesn't matter what screen size you have, the banner looks good on every device (if you spend some time working on it).

I know it wasn't there ont a phone or a tablet, but for my own satisfaction it was there on my laptop... I worked hard on my graphics for over 6 months to get that banner and my partnership, and now Youtube/Google have Poo'd right on my forehead :( I get where they are coming from with this new design, but it just doesn't tickle my fancy :)
 
i haven't change yet, only a new vlogger and don't have enough time at the moment. With have plenty of time to sit down and create a banner and trailer once I'm on uni holidays.

How on earth did you get a banner? I've been uploading for 2 years, and still don't have it. Neither do I have those new picture annotations on videos.
